My dog died DURING my move! :(

Hey everyone..I haven't been around here too much lately because I just moved across country and as the subject line states, my 12 y/o golden retriever had to be put down half-way through the trip on March 1st. He was fine, besides being older and having thyroid issues when the move began but when we reached TN, he quit eating one day and was vomiting. The day after that he seemed to be getting better and even ate a little but by the third day while he was urinating I noticed his urine was a very dark rust color which was quite alarming, enough so that next time he peed, I collected some in a cup to take to the vet. Anyway, the vet was concerned by his urine sample and took xrays immediately which revealed a huge, football sized tumor in his abdomen. I've had this dog since he was 8 weeks old so I did not hesitate when the doc suggested surgery to possibly remove the tumor. Anyway..within minutes of opening my pup, the doc came out and told me the worst news - the tumor was all over his digestive system and the rust colored urine was actually internal bleeding and said that I 'had to put the dog down.' I was truly optimistic that the surgery would fix him...I was devastated and still am. Anyway...I had Max cremated and his ashes accompanied us to our new home in WA. Things just suck right now and thanks to all who read this...I'm coping but being in a new place and not knowing anyone does not help the lonliness and sadness. BTW - I actually quit ALL snus for about 4 days after Max passed..I was just too damned depressed..but I'm back at it, living in one of thee worst tax states it appears.

Sorry for your loss dear. You might want to go look for a new pup before too long. Thats what we always do and it helps........somewhat
Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to hide the bodies of the people I killed because they were annoying......

I've been wrong lots of times.  Lots of times I've thought I was wrong only to find out that I was right in the beginning.

I'm so sorry Desirexe. What a horrible way to open a new chapter in life. I know it's probably too soon, but a new pup would at least alleviate some of your sadness maybe. For what it's worth, welcome to Washington. Let me know if you're ever headed north and want some recommendations for fun things to do in town. Take care of yourself.

Wow, sorry to hear this. We lost our dog last year, it's tough. I loved that little dog like one of the kids...no shit. We waited several months before getting another dog, and while our new pet is a great dog and loves us...and me, it's not the same. At least for me, but it really helped the kids and that's all that matters. Again, I'm sorry to hear this and wish you well on your new life in WA.

Desirexe sorry for your loss and your tax situation. I lost a pet that I had for 12 years and I also lived in TN for 20 years so I know the tax situation too.

                      D,

I am so sorry to hear about your Dog. And I know it could not have come at a worst time (not that there would ever have been a good time)

If it is any help let me assure you.....................all dogs go to heaven..................trust me..............I know

cats on the other hand are a different story.
When it's my time to go, I want to die peacefully in my sleep, like my uncle did....... Not screaming in terror like his passengers

Damn, desirexe, if it weren't for crap luck it seems you'd have very little luck at this time.

Your move, though, does not seem to have caused the problem with Max but instead may help you to better weather the loss since you've got to be busy attending to so many other little problems that do add up.

When the time is right, now or later, a new pup in Max's memory may be the proper antidote.

Good luck in your move to WA; the legislators may be backwards but from what I hear the state and the people themselves are friendly.
