My schtick is not to make you look backwards man. You post prolifically on this site and you are very forthcoming with your opinions, you gotta be ready for people to take issue with some of the things you say right? I am not doing this to give you a hard time. In any case that map is pretty interesting, thanks for posting that. According to it there are 45 countries that are on par or better off than the USA for percentage under the poverty line. Assuming the CIA Factbook uses the same criteria as the World Bank, which is people living on less than $2 per day, it is interesting to note that China, Malaysia, and Libya (pre-uprising of course) are in the <10% category. Also interesting to note that using this scale the USA is on par with places like Syria, Iran, Morocco, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Indonesia, Jamaica...

Anyway sorry to rile you up, that was not my goal. I doubt you want this forum to be a place where broad statements go unchecked, so it's all for the good of discussion, right?

If people stopped disagreeing with me than I would have to leave the forum out of boredome lol.

To clarify my infographic, the chart represents the percentage of people who live on $1.25 or less each day.

Here is the 2009 UN report on those who live on under $2 a day, adjusted for cost of living in each region, notice how there are 3 main areas where pretty much no one is living on $2 a day, whereas MOST of the world clearly has a significant portion of their population susbisting off what we would refer to as crumbs.

There is also some debate about what counts as poverty, as places like America and europe have such a high standard of living relative to the rest of the world that it is difficult to gauge it. Almostall of our poor people have things like microwaves and refridgerators etc which makes it unfair to even compare them to people who live in countries where 20-70% of the population is living on $1 a day.

Judging by the infographic I posted from the UN, it appears that 50% of the entire world is living on a lower wage than our poor, and that is adjusted for cost of living in each region, per the UN.

% Of People Living On $2 A Day Or Less:

Anyways, you have actually visited a few of these countries so I will differ to you as to whether or not their poor people have it better. While 50% of the world is developed and seems to be on par or better than America, there is still a huge section of humanity that is not even worrying about microwaves yet it seems.

And are you surprised that it put us on par with places like Iran and Jamaica? Those are all pretty developed countries, especially Iran. I would expect them to be at least on par with America in this chart.

Anyways, last hour at work so gotta look busy. It's all in fun Roo, you know that more than anyone. Don't try and paint me as a Sage you bastard

Everyone pray for Japan and everyone else in the world who is sucking right now. It will be here on our doorstep before we know it.

Whilst reading through this whole post I have come to the conclusion that you people are pretty much arguing about something that you seem to agree on and yet still need to prove your point. This thread is about Japan, not the difference between America's and Norway's welfare system.

Not much to argue about regarding Japan, so social services between countries works well enough :^D

Thanks for that cool link Hanske! It all adds up. Wouldn't it be cool if they came up with a Japan Relief Snus and donated part of the sales to the relief effort?

I'd snus that! Great marketing opportunity too because people will see the tin and spark up a conversation about japan and then eventually snus And then you can explain to them why they are missing out.

Edit: Fishmeat, you picked the perfect name, Bonzai! Quick, someone on snuson must be currently growing tobacco, lets get together and brand this shit and make a fortune!

OK now I am looking forward to a teriyaki or soy sauce flavored snus. I normally don't like flavored snus but somehow those flavors would appeal to me.
