What the hell are we doing in Libya? Is there a goal, purpose or mission statement? Why hasn't the president addressed this? As a US citizen I want the president to tell us who and what we're blowing up and why.

Also, why is there a 'Muslim world'? Where is the "Atheist world", "Christian world" or "Hindu world" et al?

A feeling is that this has been pre-planned and with the uprising they see a perfect window for the northern African oil grip.

The "Muslim World" can be an elusive concept but generally speaking it consists of countries with muslim majorities that have a substantial structure of Islamic law built into their governmental and social systems. The strictness of these laws and customs varies quite a bit but almost without exception such a country is so legally, morally and socially co-entwined with its predominant religion that it sees itself as a member of the Umma--the Muslim world. These days few, if any, other religions have the social heft to dictate directly the lifestyles and morals of a country's citizens. Not even Israel, referring to itself as a "Jewish State", exercises this level of control over its citizens. In the strictest Islamic interpretations there is no effective difference at all between religion and the machinery of government. They are melted together into one indistinguishable entity. This is an ideal of course which is rarely 100 percent achieved in practice but it usually remains an aggressively pursued goal.

          Thanks,

I cannot recall any other religion with sufficient force to saturate so thoroughly a society than Islam. A pair of Saudis educated me on the Islamist party and what that term means. It appeared people were using the term without knowledge of its definition.

Its quite a foreign concept to this American.

Coalition aircraft enforcing the no-fly zone have so far destroyed 144 Libyan tanks, thus ensuring they can't be flown.

I bet Gaddafi is having a hard time finding anyone at all to drive a tank, or an APC, or anything remotely identifiable as a combat vehicle these days. Tribal loyalty will only get you so far.

I have always wanted to fly a tank, but not anymore, now days I'm lucky to fly my office chair.

Well that does it! I am going to write a letter to Obama and let him know I don't care for this undeclared war stuff. That will fix them.

Think of it, if we hadn't intervened than those 144 tanks could have flown over here and killed our christian sons and daughters!

/I can't believe we are in a third war now. I hope this is a short campaign. I will give Obama a pass on this if we keep this short and sweet and get out. Those people needed some help, but if we overstay our welcome they will hate us and it will just end like every other time we have tried to "liberate" a country.

I read about this poor woman earlier. It is sad that she would sacrifice her life (they will kill her for this) to try and make a statement to the foreign media about the injustices the people are facing, just to be dragged out while everyone is kind of just forced to watch. Looks like a few journalists there tried to help her but truthfully there is not much they could do.

The sad part is that this kind of squashing of dissent is slowly creeping on us in America, and though we are a long ways away from being like Libya we are sure trying our best to catch up. Free speech zones, Hillary Clinton watching senior citizens/veterans getting pulled from her crowd and beaten for speaking out against her, Julian Asange, Obama denying court cases for those who were unlawfully detained and tortured etc.

Obama is no different than Ghadaffi, and neither are any of our leaders, he would allow a woman to be tied up and forcefully gang raped without blinking an eye or losing a wink of sleep, look at what larger crimes he turns his cheek to each day? Look at how many people ARE detained and tortured for saying something against the administration, we have no way of knowing how many people have suffered a similar fate because Obama has consistently denied court cases to women like this and to those who have suffered worse abuses, therefore we never get a count on how often this happens here. All we know is that occasionally someone shows up to the court claiming that we tied them up in a dungeon for years and tortured them, but again the Obama admin silences them as soon as possible by denying them trials or any avenue of appeal. He has denied innocent men their day in court, he has denied due process, suspended habeus corpus, and made it clear that torture and indefinite detention without charges are something he stand behind 100% and will fight to the protect. If he had the power, he would do this to us, look at his action so far, nothing but contempt for the average american, nothing but lies and deception and empty promises, he has turned his head when people were chained and tortured before, and Gitmo is still open and torture is in full swing. Bush was much better as a president because at least people protested him, at least when he did evil things people spoke out and tried to stop him, with Obama the left sits silently in support of him because he is "better than Mccain", and the right is vilified and called racists when they try to protest him.

The International Court is watching everything the Gadhafi regime is doing.
If she is harmed or killed the regime better hope they are not taken alive.

Criminals watching criminals. That certainly makes me feel better. Where would we be without the judgment of the losers of war?
