What do you think about Norway?

I'm working with a school project. Everyone in my class got the same task, but with different countries. One got Denmark, one got Sweden, one got Canada and so on. Our task is to find out what other people from other countries think about our country, and try to see if it's true.

I've asked a Portugese guy, a Dane, an Englishman, a Swede and an Italian. Here's what they said. My comments are in italic.

Portugal: Norway is cold and everyone eats fish.

Norway is cold and we do eat a lot of fish, but not everyone. Mostly in the Northern parts, and amongst the elderly.

Dane: Norway is expensive, everyone are rich, everyone are freandly, Norwegans like fish and beer and Norwegians are proud of their nature and culture.

Norway is expensive, our average income is high, but not everyone can buy what they want, freandliness depends on the person, Norwegians eat a lot of fish and we like our beer and Norwegians are mostly proud of our nature. Some thinks our culture is stupid

Swede: Norwegians are arrogant, rich, cheap, trendy, fashion conscious, good at skiing and they like Sweden.

We might be a bit arrogant, some are rich, the youth is mostly trendy and fashion conscious, Norwegians like skiing, but not everyone - I hate it, and yes, we like what Sweden gives us. H&M, GinaTricot, Monki and so on, and of course, snus.

Englishman: Norwegians are always blond, they are arrogant and most of them work with oil of some kind.

No, not all Norwegians are blond. More than in other countries, but not all. We might be arrogant, and many work with oil, but not more than you'll find in other industries in other countries.

Italian: Norway is the capital of Sweden.

    Hehe...

Please answer, and tell where you're from.

I like Norway for it's underground black metal scene. Over 1/2 of my music collection are bands from Norway, and if not Norway they are bands from Sweden, Poland, etc..

I also think Norway has some of the best landscape and scenery (that is if you like mountains, trees, rain, snow, fog, etc...which I do!).

I know my impression is probably incorrect, but I've always had the thought that Norway has more metalheads walking around than here in America. It's rare you ever hear a young adult playing their "rock and roll" music too loud in America. Everyone seems to listen to rap and hip hop. Is it the same way in Norway?

There might be some metalheads, but not many. Actually, Norwegian black metal bands doesn't sell much in Norway. They sell like 3000 records in Norway, and 300 000 in Italy... Most Norwegian teens/young adults listen to hip hop and rap. We listen to the same as the Americans, + some Norwegians like Madcon, Karpe Diem, Paperboys and Diaz.

Cool, thanks. Living in Oklahoma, U.S.A. (mid-west) I'm faced with stereotypes all the time. Some people on the coasts think we still have indians (Native Americans) living in teepees and wigwams, tumbleweeds blowing through town, and the occasional shoot-out at the local saloon!

With the way the economy is going that will just be a matter of time.

I live in Arkansas. People think we're shine runnin', sister ****in', and teeth missin' uneducated hillbillies with only the necessary skills to make it through life - banjo playin' and fishin'.

actually I don't have a reason to ever think about Norway.

But the first thing that comes to mind is.......

Norway.......A country special enough to have a rat named after it.

                now thats cool
Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to hide the bodies of the people I killed because they were annoying......

I've been wrong lots of times.  Lots of times I've thought I was wrong only to find out that I was right in the beginning.

Hanske: I don't care for your opinion, but when you get 3 years older (18, so that you ACTUALLY BUY SNUS Legally in stores)
You will understand just how shitty this country is, in other words. You are too young. Sure you might know what music is in, and same with fashion. But there are some ****ed up things in this country, DON'T GET ME STARTED. my 0.2

Lithuanian (me, I've been to Norway as a kid): Norway is expensive, beautiful mountains and fjods, impossible to to go to because it's so expensive, and also trolls.

                          From an American:

I heard the VAT is very high in Norway -- a pint of beer is approximately $10 USD at a bar! I was told by someone about this, so they could be incorrect about their evaluation.

Anyway, whenever I picture Norway, I think of old architecture, gloomy weather, and black metal. I have never met a Norwegian myself, so I won't formulate any judgments about its inhabitants.

I picture people in Volvos saying "Yah, Yah" at the end of every sentence.

                              1. Lutefisk (Seriously? Lye in your food? This stuff is horrid...)

                              2. Cool scenery
                              3. Blonds with large noses (maybe just my experience with Americans of Norwegian descent)
                              4. Apathetic in that Scandinavian way
                              5. Socialists
                              6. Economically smart - and so far smart enough to stay out of the EU
                              7. Akvavit!
                              8. Ridiculous metal "music"
I actually had to look this up:

"akvavit - Scandinavian liquor usually flavored with caraway seeds"

                              Sounds interesting.

Must go great with seeded rye bread!
