Which web browser do you use?

I was just reading up on some browser comparisons and it made me curious to see which browser the SnusOn Community prefers.

Knowing the crappy factor IE has, I switched to Firefox years ago...then Google gave us Chrome. Been using Chrome now for two years and I don't see myself going back to Firefox.

I'd use chrome, but I'm too lazy to swap out the icon's on my desktop. Suppose I'll stick with firefox for now

Hmm, I somehow forgot to list chrome as an option. OOPS! I had every intention of doing so.

IE6 was a crappy security risk. IE7 and 8 improved security, but were bloated, and feature poor. I hear IE9's pretty damned good, but I haven't used it yet. They didn't make it available for Ubuntu :^D

I don't know the answer to this question but would Norton Internet Security fill these gaps or are these gaps that cannot be filled by another security programme?

Referring to IE6? Security software /can/ fill in the gaps, but that's a half assed way to go about it. That's like leaving your store unlocked overnight, but booby trapping it so someone gets trapped when the "break" in the store. Yea, that kind of works after a fashion, but it would be easier to just lock the damned thing in the first place :^D

IE7 and 8 are much more secure, and a little more standards compliant than IE6 was, but they're still bloated pigs, and lack features. Give IE9 a shot if you want to stick with IE, and are on Vista or Win7. Otherwise, I'd choose an alternative. They're pretty much all better than the earlier versions of IE...

Firefox - Open source., and tremendously extensible. Not the fastest browser, but you can make do damned near anything you want by using addons.

Opera - Closed source, and comes with a ton of functionality built it. It's like flying a plane for someone new due to all the features, but it's a nice browser, and fairly speedy.

Chrome - Open source, and as close to nothing as you can get in a browser. The fastest of the bunch, but not many extra features. Good if you just want a browser, and nothing else.

I was going to say no Chrome, but then I read your comment about that.

I also use Internut Exploder 9 for Logmein for work stuff, but that's it.

Internet Explorer 9. The hardware acceleration is great. Pages load faster, and there's a ton of other neat things built into the browser (e.g. No need for Adblock. That feature is already built-in. You can pick 'EasyList' and a bunch of other lists (you can even make your own).

Also, you can highlight words and a blue icon will appear next to the highlight. You can use 'accelerators' to do things like search, translate, e-mail, map, etc.

Firefox, mostly because of the fantastic plugins. I have NoScript, AdBlock Plus, BeefTaco, BetterPrivacy, Gtranslate, UserAgent Switcher, and Download Helper running in Firefox. I use Chrome when I want to do banking or other financial transactions without restarting my Firefox session. Another nice thing about Chrome and Firefox is that I basically have the same user experience on every platform. I am in a familiar browser in Windows, Linux, or OSX.

At work I usually use IE8 and Chrome for work-related browsing and Firefox for personal browsing.
