"Into Eternity" Documentary about Nuclear Waste Storage

    http://topdocumentaryfilms.com/into-eternity/

Every day, the world over, large amounts of high-level radioactive waste created by nuclear power plants is placed in interim storages, which are vulnerable to natural disasters, man-made disasters, and to societal changes.
In Finland the world’s first permanent repository is being hewn out of solid rock – a huge system of underground tunnels – that must last 100,000 years as this is how long the waste remains hazardous.
Once the waste has been deposited and the repository is full, the facility is to be sealed off and never opened again. Or so we hope, but can we ensure that?
And how is it possible to warn our descendants of the deadly waste we left behind? How do we prevent them from thinking they have found the pyramids of our time, mystical burial grounds, hidden treasures? Which languages and signs will they understand? And if they understand, will they respect our instructions?
While gigantic monster machines dig deeper and deeper into the dark, experts above ground strive to find solutions to this crucially important radioactive waste issue to secure mankind and all species on planet Earth now and in the near and very distant future.
Captivating, wondrous and extremely frightening, this feature documentary takes viewers on a journey never seen before into the underworld and into the future.

    This sounds kick ass!

But everyone should still think about how much safer and more environmentally responsible nuclear is over coal and petroleum. The fact that we can contain all of the nasty by-products and waste created by nuclear fission and box it up until later is a testament to how much safer it is than SPEWING IT INTO THE AIR like certain other ways of producing energy. It will stay buried until we figure out what to do with it, it won't take 100,000 years because we'll find a way to recycle it by then.

Right now we are working on ways of recycling this nuclear waste and breaking it down further to produce more energy. Kind of like oil shale but for nuclear. Bill Gates was talking about it at TED.

I hope we can get the technology going for some alternative energies but with the increasing power demand, we are going to need something stronger. Wait until the rest of the world joins us and plugs into the grid and starts buying computers and modernizing, the energy bill for planet earth is going to ****ing skyrocket. We need to find some HUGE source of energy like fusion or something, there's a way. I just fear that we will wait until the last second to solve this problem just so the oil companies can make every penny they can off the existing oil wells. We won't be out of the oil business until it is no longer profitable, which is a long...long time away.

I'm all for clean energy [and that includes nuclear]. We should be replacing our coal plants with nuclear, hydroelectric, geothermal, wind, solar, and other clean energy sources.

Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to hide the bodies of the people I killed because they were annoying......

I've been wrong lots of times.  Lots of times I've thought I was wrong only to find out that I was right in the beginning.
