The laws are different in each state but you can get in serious trouble shooting a unarmed burglar and especially shooting somebody outside of your home even if it is your property, you were in danger etc....

I am not advocating shooting anyone:

If I caught some one stealing my stuff or threatening my family, I would probably try to hold them at gunpoint until law enforcement arrived
If I had to shoot I would shoot to end the situation where my word would not be disputed or I ended up in a law suit.

I was advocating a lesser non-life threatening injury shot verses a kill shot is better in almost all cases of home self defense.

For example, when some meth head is coming at you in your home in the dark you will legally be better off if you drop the intruder with some shots to the legs verses a head shot depending on the laws in your state.

very much not a good idea, 9 times out of 10 at a concealed permit course which i have done they will tell you if you fire your weapon you kill them... 2 reasons, if they are dead there is one side to the story, 2nd reason, if you shoot and injure them they have grounds for a malicious intent lawsuit which they will more than likely win and own you till the day you or they dies.

All I know is if somebody forces their way into my home, I’m going for the kill shot and then some, so the bastard won’t be able to sue me for injuring him/her. Most laws clearly protect the criminal might as well silence the threat.

so somebody broke into my car at work yesterday... they stole my CD book which had about 500 rare/import/out of print Cd's in it... they also stole my Ruger LCR..my Mytouch 4g... and worst of all they stole my 3 ml icetool and my slimcase... AND my cooler bag with my last can of lucky my can of Bla and my last 30 or so grams of Kardus 2010... DAMN HEATHENS!!!!

I am sorry for what happened to you, it is disgusting, I take the extreme against car jacking, it should be dealt with just like what they dealt with horse thieves, it is the same they should be dealt with extreme punishment so that thieves think a lot before jacking cars but with lax laws it is open season ... hate them

Home protection using a firearm is nice but make sure your choice for home protection doesn't hurt your neighbors. High caliber weapons will go thru the assailant, thru your wall and into the neighbor's house if you are not super careful. My opinion on weapons for home protection are shot guns and .22 cal. You have little chance of hurting your neighbors using these types of weapons.

In summation..... Always shoot center mass..... Always

Agreed, I am assuming most those cases are mainly for burglars being shot in the back. That is why if you do shoot make sure they are facing you.

If I had clear identification and the intruder had a real weapon in hand then my natural reflex would be a chest shot in any other number of other situations where you do not have full visibility or the situation is somewhat in your favor, I would take a lesser shot if I absolutely had to. (Like a illegal immigrant cornered and swinging a broom at you)

Every situation/state law could be different but the best way to not be charged by your peers with a life sentence like (homicide) is to not take somebodys life is all I am saying.

Anybody comes in my house when i'm home and threatens my life/saftey, thats a wrap. Got a 12ga mossberg 500 pump with 18 1/2 barrel loaded up with 000 buck. Got a .45 acp as well, but if the time comes, I'm grabbing the shotgun. Worst case senario is if they don't have a weapon, but hey it was dark, all the lights were off and he was yelling that he had a gun...

Sucks though, sorry about your car. Maybe the po-lice will take it more seriously since a gun was stolen as well.

That sucks man. I read awhile back about something you can get put on your car that slings metal rods out from under it and breaks thieves shin bones. Might be a good investment.
