      It sounds like a great idea to me... Inoculate mycelium all around the area, pick the radioactive mushrooms, and safely dispose of the radiation. Rinse and repeat.

        Nature has an elaborate system for sequestering and containing radiation. It seems that the best way to treat heavy radiation levels is to somehow convince nature to soak it up, and this sounds like a good idea with the mushrooms. Same thing with storing nuclear waste, nature stors it's own nuclear waste in an effective way, we need to learn how to replicate that so we can safely store it in the ground.

          And for people concerned that mushrooms aren't viable possibilities there are other phytoremedial plants/things out there, like poplars and sunflowers apparently.
