      Sony alleges that George Hotz, Hector Martin Cantero, Sven Peter, and the rest of fail0verflow are:

      Violating §1201 of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, which forbids bypassing access control measures;

      Violating the federal Computer Fraud and Abuse Act, which forbids accessing computers without authorization;

      Guilty of contributory copyright infringement for encouraging and helping others to crack PS3s as well;

      Violating the California Computer Crime Law, which is the state computer fraud act (think of this as a backup fraud claim);

      Violating the PlayStation Network's Terms of Service (which feels meaningless, really);

      Interfering with Sony's relationships with other PSN customers (also meaningless);

      Trespassing on Sony's ownership right to the PS3 (this one feels weak) and;

      Misappropriating Sony's intellectual property (another weak argument, but there in case the copyright argument fails).

      $24billion is a hefty price for being jackasses...

      costly lesson... lets see what they do next... oh besides claiming hackers stole CC info and making themselves look like innocent victims.

        Sony doesn't deserve this.

        If I recall correctly, the RROD costs Microsoft a hefty 30 billion. This certainly won't kill Sony but yeah, still sucks.

          yes, yes they do deserve it. you don't accuse people of and then sue them for

          Violating §1201 of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, which forbids bypassing access control measures;

          Violating the federal Computer Fraud and Abuse Act, which forbids accessing computers without authorization;

          for what equates to "jailbreaking" their ps3 and showing others how to do it.

          if you're going to accuse people of those crimes, then you should suffer from those crimes... The REAL version of those crimes.. not the fake B.S. version you've accused someone else of doing in a court of law.

          There is a reason Apple and every company on the planet doesn't sue jailbreakers..... Sony just learned it.

              I heard about problems like this a while back. So when we got x-box live for our boy, I made the rule of no credit cards go into the x-box...

                Yah the hackers have stolen over 2 million credit card numbers including the CVC codes and all that. Sony didn't even bother encrypting it, they had it sitting on a server all in plain text, over 2 million credit cards!

                My whole thing is, why do they need to store it in the first place. They should make you enter it again every time you want to buy something and never store all your numbers locally.

                  I agree.

                  Like with amazon, I delete my CC info after every purchase. Probably should have with psn also.

                  And people need to wake up. The very first day the news was released, I walked into my bank, and literally 2 minutes later walked out with a brand new card. How hard was that? All these people just now stressing over it I just dont get. Why wait till something happens to do something about it?
