Do powerful conservatives want politicians who can think?

My local paper did a story about how closely our state government's recent legislation resembles that written by an organization called ALEC.

    http://www.alec.org/AM/Template.cfm?Section=Home

This conservative group basically spends its time writing legislation that a conservative government can copy and paste and put out for a vote.

Wealthy conservatives and corporations can now sink a ton of money into elections, and groups like ALEC to get whatever laws they want.

My question is, do they want to elect politicians who can think and care about the people, or are they simply looking for empty suits with a rubber stamp that will do their bidding?

Politicians think.... about themselves and their benefactors. Just because they're not thinking about what is best for the general public doesn't mean they don't think...

We don't have leaders anymore. The politicians are worried about keeping their stupid jobs, and not about doing the right thing. We can't even get rid of the worthless penny that COSTS us money to mint due to the cowards being afraid of what "the people" will say. News flash jackasses, the average person is a moron, and their opinion doesn't matter. Get rid of the penny, and tell people that's the way it's gonna be. After a couple weeks of bitching, no one will worry about it, and we won't be wasting money on pennies.

THAT'S a simple problem, and these jokers can't even handle that. How can we expect real leadership on something important?! :^S
