    Work ass whipping wage slave

Thought I was walking into a annual raise only to get a major ass whipping today. Apparently people behind my back have been talking about not liking my work etc... I can understand a little because I am spread pretty thin but was a little surprised because it really is last minute polishing of shit and I thought I was doing a really good job.
At least my coworker higher up stood by me but I could tell the boss was out for the kill and thinking everything was because of slacking. His only understanding is just not hearing anything from anyone.

In another economy I would of walked out today but job's in todays recession are hard to come by. This kinda makes me want to take the next level of starting my own graphic/wedding biz but I am just terrified of the leap.

It will be hard to start but eventually the rules of the day are my own. This is going to burn for awhile and probably bring back my insomnia.

    Being a wage slave sucks!!!!

Sorry about that man....a coworker of mine got the same thing just yesterday. Went in for her annual review which was scheduled for an hour and she figured she would be out in 30 minutes because she had accomplished so much in the past year. Three hours later came back in tears. I think some some bosses know the state of the economy in the back (or forefront) of their minds and feel they can be a little harsher than normal because many of us are just happy to have any job and will take more shit than usual because of it.

Positive thoughts here! A nice shot of whiskey before bed (if that is your thing) has worked for my insomnia in the past

In some sector things are turning. IT seems to be seeing some hiring rise right now. Just saying.

But yeah I am seeing and hearing of the same stuff from lots of people.

I really thought my company was beating the blues of todays world but I guess there are changes happening which I did not even know about. One big one is that everybody will be forced to start the day earlier to use every breathing working minute for business.

Not really glad to hear others have also been getting yearly lashings instead of raises. It looks like still a bumpy road for many of us.

Sucks. I don't believe employers care about their employees. I did a good a job, and was always given favorable review on my annual performance review, and was there almost 4 years, and like a dumbass, I actually cared about my work, and tried to do it good, and then they fired me out of the blue with zero warning or recourse, or ability to rectify anything, I don't think I'll ever be able to care about any job again. I saved up some money, and so I haven't been job searching yet, and I hate the thought of it, I'm hoping on Oct being the End Date.

Working for yourself isn't that great imo. You have 4 times the work, half the pay, and 10 times the hassle. There's probably some sweet gigs out there, but they're as rare as becoming an actor, or pro sports player. Employers will take everything you give them, and damned few will reciprocate. I'll never kill myself for work again. You only get 1 pass through life, and if you squander it on work, you've wasted your time here.

The definition of a job is: A task that is so inherently unpleasant they have to pay somebody to do it.

Unfortunately that same scenario is playing out every day all over the country. It used to be you could quit a job and find a better one on the way home. Not anymore and employers are aware of that and taking full advantage.

And One day it will come back and bite the employers right in the ass.... Can't wait for the economy to get better and all employers that have been treating their employees like shit get theirs.... It will happen it's just a matter of when...

I have 2 good friends (Brothers) that both got good reviews and both were told near the end of the talk that they had earned a raise but that they wouldn't be get one because things were so bad with the economy. Thing is, the older brother is in with the accounting guys and knows the company made more money last year that any of the previous three.

I'm sure the time will come. I know I do the job of three + people at work (My district, another district where we fired the guy and Director of Training plus IT side work) but..... It's steady work. I make more than I ever have in my life but I also work over 80 hours a week. I've considered looking for another job but my wife and I are able to bank 2-3000 every month so I'll tough it out for a bit and build a bit of a safety net before I look if the work load doesn't drop off dramatically.

On the flip side, I am the boss to about 20 people directly and 350 indirectly. I make it my mission every day to do right by them, it is because of them that we are even here and in business. I just got our company to start doing raises again after an almost 2 year freeze.

What ever happened to computers and robots making life easier? Seems to me, they just added work. They work faster than any human, so the sucke...erm dedicated employee has to work twice fast, to keep up with them. I want my fsckin' 20 hour work week, with full time pay like they said I would get :^/

Damn, its always a downer to read stories like these, where people have to suck up to and take sh*t from their bosses/employers with a smile and a yes sir. Employers taking advantage of the economy to treat people like dirt and over work them.

If I posted what I/my coworkers say to our managers/supervisors on a daily basis, I would be banned from the forum, no joke. My job is a PITA, its very hard and unpleasant, back breaking manual labor in a dirty warehouse with no air conditioning. But the pay is good, you can wear whatever you want, and there is no cow-towing to the 'man in charge'. If my boss does/says something to piss me off then he gets an ear full, thats just the way it is. Hell I remember when I first started that job and the very first supervisor I worked for, we used to get into shouting fights every single night, where we would be screaming at each other at the top of our lungs all night long. Then once the shift was over, we'd make some small talk, slap a hi 5 and be on our separate ways, just to do it all over again the next night.

Very rarely a supervisor will have a bad day and get mad enough and threaten to write you up, but a quick chat with a shop steward (union rep) will settle his ass right back down again. At my job the management/supervisors are not members of the union, only the hourly workers are in the union, so that gives us a big advantage. So long as your good at your job, and give your best at every shift, you don't have to take sh*t from anyone.
