It'll be ok and my theory of homeostasis.

I was speaking to my cousin on Facebook about my dad a bit ago, and she was saying the usual things one says to another in situations like this: Thoughts, prayers, he'll be ok.
I said that everything will work out; it always does, and it always will. Then I thought about life in general.
If a certain situation doesn't destroy you, but completely changes your reality, eventually you'll come to a point of homeostasis. Your new reality will become the rut you'll soon find yourself in. When my wife's dad died last year, there was a tremendous hole left in his absence. In that time, we've never once forgotten him, but we've adjusted and moved on in our own way.
I think we as humans, look for that state of homeostasis because we need to find that "rut" so to speak. Or else how will ever spot abnormality when it rears it's ugly head? I'm sure there are some people that can handle a random life, but I suspect most of us cannot.
This idea may very well be common knowledge, and I may be slow and only now figured this out. I thought I'd share this eureka moment with the group for your consideration.

This post was brought to you by the letter F, and the number 1.

Nice analogy. Homeostasis, referring as it does to a system in a stable unchanging state, pretty well describes a stable life--i.e. normality. Good one A.

I'm a big fan of consistency. I've always tried to find my groove, and stick with it. Sometimes tracks need to be changed, but I don't like deviating too far.

Here's a song quote I use as my sig on another forum. It's applicable for everyone, but not always easily remembered...

You're right that most people can't handle the "random life". I happen to be one of those few people who thrive on chaos and have committed to a random lifestyle. Not by choice but by necessity. I'll spare you guys the details but homeostasis for me is embracing constant change. I would give anything to be able to live a "normal" life. But, that's not in my cards. And I play the hand that was dealt to me.

Good post. And I wish you and your family all the best.

I've had a tremendous amount of change in my life. It seems life as I know it has usually been that way so I can understand having to learn to live with new challenges. The jobs I've had have always had irregular schedules too. At least now my hours are more predictable but the work itself is different every day.
