    The gas mines of uranus

"Project Icarus is an ambitious five-year study into launching an unmanned spacecraft to an interstellar destination."

The question for the project is, what is the fuel source?

"You guessed it; the best helium-3 supply in the solar system is from the "Gas Mines" of Uranus. That the planet which is the butt of so many poor jokes should be relatively rich in methane as well is purely coincidental, but as a mining site it has several advantages...."

    Lol, the irony...

Helium 3 is something that is extremely rare to come across on earth but is overwhelmingly present on places like the moon and (apparently) uranus I believe Buzz Aldrin had gone on about this for some time about how the solar winds had been depositing helium 3 all over the moon and elsewhere and how we should be harvesting it. I am a big beliver in harvesting resources from solar bodies and asteroids, but then I remember how much resource acquisition has cost us here on planet earth (in terms of human lives, conflict etc) and it makes me sad. At least there are no natives to throw off of uranus lol. Or are there... *cue dramatic music* DUN DUN DUNnnnn.....

Hey sgreger1. I hope you have been well. You must have been if your post count is any indication.

I can't believe you actually read the article. I only posted it because how many times in my life will I be able to post an article that seriously discusses the gas mines of Uranus?

I hope you have been well too my friend!

I havn't been real active here lately actually, I was posting like crazy for a while (thus the post count) but i've been busy lately so only follow up on a few threads and that's about it. In fact I reduced my snusing to almost 0 and now only use 1 portion a day and usually just re-use the same one throughout the day, been trying to quit for health/finance reasons but havn't decided to let it go completely yet. Been having some medical problems lately and they think I might have cancer or something but I think they are just shooting in the dark and don't know what's wrong with me.

Anyways, I would love to see them actually do something with the space missions again, we spend so much treasure and blood to get resources out of the earth that are almost surely present in near endless quantities on the local planets/moons/asteroids. It's just a matter of investing some money into space programs and eventually it will be cost effective to actually go out there and mine it and bring it back to earth.

sgregor, sorry to hear man. If it is, hope it's early and treatable. Many are these days, especially if you catch it early enough. Keep us posted though, we care!

sgreger1, don't even let that thought enter your mind. I bet they don't yet know and aren't sure. Even if it is, catching it early is a good thing. You are young and have a very long life ahead of you. Keep THAT in your mind.

Thanks all. I don't trust doctors any more, I don't think it's cancer, I'll find out in about a week. They are just shooting in the breeze if you ask me. But the full body scan will say for sure. Either way, life goes on. Back to intergalactic fart jokes! lol.

Bro please keep us posted. You are in our thoughts and prayers. I hope they find what the problem is, and that it is not cancer, and that it is easily fixable.

Stay strong ........and let us know what they say

Sgreger1 best wishes on the diagnosis. Once you find out what it is the better it can be dealt with....
