To go along with the other music thread, I'm posting my favorite legal(quasi legal) download sites. These all get the lxskllr seal of approval :^)
http://www.jazz-on-line.com/ You can download these tracks free here and elsewhere on the web, but it's worth the $5 for 3 months of downloads for easier access, and to help defray the guys bandwidth costs. tons of classic public domain jazz recordings are available here, and can be easily downloaded with a download manager(I recommend the DownThemAll extension for FireFox). The site looks amateurish, but you can pay the $5 with confidence. It's all legit, though I'm not sure all the tracks have reached public domain.
http://www.emusic.com/ A subscription download service. You won't find the crap of the week here, but there's lots of great music to be found if you read the reviews, and open yourself up to the unfamiliar. About 2 years ago I got 50 free downloads from them with an mp3 player, and I've been a member ever since. I was grandfathered in at 40 downloads per month for $10. Now it's 30 for $10 I believe, but still a great deal.
http://www.archive.org/details/audio WOW, you could spend months in here, and many hundreds of $ on hard drives, and still not have it all. Armed Forces Radio Service broadcasts from WWII, radio drama shows, big band remotes, the Grateful Dead, plus silent films, and historical documentaries. This is one of the top 10 best sites on the web, period. It's worth having an internet connection just for this site.
http://www.live365.com/index.live Not a download site, but very reasonable rates for just about any kind of radio you'd like to hear. Many are available free, but some good ones you have to be a VIP member for. Very much worth the $8 per month to have full access.
I recommend listening to these using Foobar2000 http://www.foobar2000.org/ The linux of music players, but it's gotten much more user friendly over the years. Plays just about any kind of audio, and if you put the time in to learn how, it has limitless customization options.
