    Random thought provoking question time.

Do you think your memories ever completely fade away?
we have routines in our lives. We wake up, make coffee, pop in a snus, go to work, come home, and whatever happens, happens. When we were kids, we had similar routines. Things we did, things we liked, games and toys we played with, TV shows we watched, whatever.
My question is this: Do those memories ever really go away? Are they terminated at some point? I remember once, my aunt, uncle, and cousins came to our house. I largely ignored them to play with toys, I remember looking for a transformer. Little shit like that. Do you guys think all the little things are lost? Or are they lurking somewhere deep down?
Will the little things you do today be forgotten forever?

I dont think they are completly forgotten. I have nights where i remember a simple thing. Like riding my big wheel to McDonalds. Lol. I was mad at my parents and decided I was going to McDonalds. I asked my mom about it the next day and she laughed and said I did stuff like that alot. I used to run away. Lol. Another thing she said. I once got mad at my mamaw and hide in an old refigurator that was in our yard. I got locked in and they could find me for close to 3hrs. I had no recall of that until she told me. But then again your asking about smaller things. I think if we are walked through a process that could help us remember the smaller things then in theory we could remember them. That process could be hypnosis

Memories can last from milliseconds, to a lifetime. There are actually quite a few theories of forgetting: Trace decay (memories disappear because they aren't practiced), Interference (basically memories get mangled up, for example you previously studied Spanish, and just learned French, and now have a hard time remembering Spanish due to you learning French), Lack of consolidation (When your brain doesn't have enough time to consolidate something into your long term memory), motivated forgetting (this is Freudian bullshit, basically you repress memories of certain things, because you associate them with some sort of pain, you can access these memories, but you feel emotional distress when you do, and it's very difficult, I say bullshit, but the truth is, there may be some truth to that), there is also retrieval failure (you have the memories in your head, but just can't recall them, because you are in a totally different environmental, psychological, or physiological state).

There is no consensus, and this type of psychology is very new, and huge advances are made year by year, so I think time will reveal how memories really work.

I have quite the intricate theory on the human memory. but I can't seem to remember what it was.

Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to hide the bodies of the people I killed because they were annoying......

I've been wrong lots of times.  Lots of times I've thought I was wrong only to find out that I was right in the beginning.

There are people with perfect memories. It's a condition called hyperthymesia. I think the memories are there in all of us, but most of us can't readily access them.

PP I bet getting older has really made you think about the hereafter.
Like walking into the kitchen and thinking " What am I here after?"

I remember quite a lot of when I was a child.

Now that I have my own children, there are things they do that trigger memories, feelings etc that I thought I had forgotten. So no, it's all up there waiting for a trigger.

A good example is when they are upset - it vividly brings back what it was like to be upset as a child. Another is a simple hug or cuddle - that feeling of protection that I can offer them. I now remember that feeling so I offer plenty. Seeing something that amazes them triggers memories of the first time I saw it etc etc. There's loads of stuff.
