Need some tech help guys! HD..

I'm sure some if you remember about my car accident last year. Well long story short my wife sued our insurance and after the medical bills are payed we are getting a couple grand next month. I want to get a decent hdtv to mount on the wall in the living room and I have no idea about all the differences. I know I don't want to shell out for 3D it's not worth it to me. My budget will be less than a grand and I want the full 1080 and a good size. Does frame rate really matter? 60hz 120hz? Does brand names really matter? What are the best stores to go to?

Biggest question is which is the best.. Plasma, LCD, or LED?

I'm sure you guys know I could just google all of this but I really trust your opinions..

LCD or led. I like samsungs.
I'm going to be getting a 55" led samsung and sell my 50" dlp samsung here soon.
Honestly go to thestore and look at the tvs. You can tell the image and crispness differences and you will get exactly what you want.

        CNet's buyer's guide helped me out a lot: http://reviews.cnet.com/tv-buying-guide/

I ended up getting a 43" plasma that I'm pretty happy with. Part of the reason I went with plasma is that standard definition content looks better on it than LCD, and I haven't sprung for the HD digital cable yet. It's only 720p though, but I don't know if you can really tell the difference, and I only paid $500 for it.

Eric, I would go for an LED TV which technically is an LCD/LED... The major difference is in the back lighting and is now the best bang for your buck and will last way longer than an LCD.... The picture/Color is a crisper and clearer quality and the viewing angle is way better than a traditional LCD... I have one in my bedroom and almost can't wait for the LCD in the living room to go so I can get the newer LCD/LED....

Here is a quick good read on the differences of LCD VS LED..... I'm sure there are plenty out there... http://www.lcdtvbuyingguide.com/hdtv/led-vs-lcd.html

Not sure what size your looking for, But since you spend alot of your time at Walmart you could always buy one there to see how it looks in your living room and if you don't like the picture quality it can always be returned.... Walmart's return policy is great for this... VIZIO seems to be getting raves these days and it's what I have for the bedroom TV....

I would go with LED any day of the week. My wife and I have a 50" Panasonic plasma that's really pretty. Course, it came with our living room set so we didn't have too much of a choice.
Next TV I buy will be the biggest LED I can afford. The picture is so crisp and beautiful, I can't stand it.

Thanks guys for the input the articles were really good reads.. LED sounds great.. Right now my wife and I have 32 inch lcd 720 in the bedroom and its works good I just wish it was as detailled as the 1080. I guess the wife and I just have to do some shopping around. I know I'm definetely avoiding plasma.. I dont need something that I put alot of money into burning out on me.

In fairness to the ole plasma, they really aren't very expensive for what you're getting. You can go to Best Buy and get a 50" just like mine for around $600. Not too bad I'd say.
We have a 32" LCD in the bedroom. We don't do video games in there, and the only thing we really watch is a episode or 2 or usually classic TV like I love Lucy or The Honeymooners. Occasionally we'll watch something newer like Family Guy or Simpson's or Robot Chicken. The rest of the time is 80's cartoons. So we really don't need anything fancy in there. But the living room has the Blu Ray and 360. It HAS to be fancy in there!
