Netflix to raise prices come september 5th

Part of me knew it was too good to be true and they would raise prices eventually. It still disheartening. And to raise the shit by $5.99 in one fell swoop. I most likely will continue to subscribe but if they don't increase their streaming content, I may just quit netflix and subscribe to showtime with my 15 bucks, I have always justified the lack of "new" streaming content with the price, but no longer. Unless they start showing more streaming content it's off to the movie channel of the month for $10 and redbox for me........

Netflix sucks balls anyway. I don't have the patience to wait for DVDs by mail, and their streaming content is all 10+ year old crap. I've done the ps3 free trial twice now, and cancelled both times well before the trial was up.

I love it as it is, have no problems waiting for DVD's or the thirty day differnce. I can tolerate the lackof content for the money, Just don't know that I can anymore. I saw something a few months back that they laid out a lot of loot for some big name to do some exclusive programming, must not of been that big that I can't remember. But here in lies the problem, they want to be cable apparently. So much for all the peeps that quit cable by making concessions to their lack of shit. I dunno, it just seems they are effing up a good thing that had a perfect pricing model for what it was.

I still like Netflix and if you do streaming only it is still the same price. My plan is to cut all Cable/Satellite (except the cable modem) this December and use just internet services. I will be using Netflix, Hulu+ and Amazon VOD for my watching and that really should cover all my tv needs for whatever I want whenever I want it at a pittance compared to my Dish Network bill.

If I didn't have a wife and kids, I would do the same thing, as I rarely watch TV at all, and when the day comes that I no longer have to see Nick Jr on my TV, I am thrrowing a multi-kegger.

I'll probably stick with Netflix for streaming only, but if they're going to charge for streaming as a seperate line item, then they need to work harder on deals with more studios. Otherwise I'll just go with Amazon VOD and Redbox.

My comcast bill is 98.00 for basic cable and internet. That is what they call a deal

IN nov it goes to probably 130.00 or higher and I am going to drop cable.

The kid watches her library of cd's over and over. The women barely watch the housewife/reality shows for maybe a hour a day.

I watch 10 minutes of news at dinner and barely get another half hour of news/monster fish, bigfoot before bed.

So really nobody really watches much and movies are a dollar at RedBox. Never watched more then 3 movies in a month anyways, because their are not that many worth watching these days. FLOOD of B's

I do have a wife and kids. The kids love netflix. They can watch spongebob and numerous other kids shows in marathon mode with no commercials.

I know the feeling, some shows I cannot stand, Spongebob I kind of like but my personal favorite right now Phineas and Ferb. Penguins of Madagascar is pretty good as well.

Thanks for mentioning this! I was getting ready to cancel my account, but I only have a streaming account for those 3 or 4 times a month I'm bored enough to "see what's on TV." I wasn't about to pay $15+ a month for that convenience.

I can understand them needing to raise the price on the mailorder subscription, since every service involved is perpetually getting more expensive. But, a $5.99 hike in one go sees counter-intuitive. People are going to cancel their subscriptions, and it certainly won't look attractive to newcomers.

I just changed my Netflix account to streaming only. Sadly, they will be getting less money from me because although I had a 2 DVD-Bluray and streaming I hardly every used the mail order service. So, I wonder if they weighed the unintended consequence of people like me.

Meh.... I save money with this new pricing scheme.

I don't have TV. I'll rarely watch an old TV show or movie on the computer, but that's it. I think Netflix is pushing people towards the streaming only plan, which makes sense.

That is my thought too and I hope that means they are working towards upping their streaming offerings.

I hope that is the case, but I sincerely doubt it. Especially if this move backfires on them the way i think it might.
