Spotify is great so far... I just downloaded the interface a few minutes ago. Forgive me, I haven't had time to look into it yet, but how does it work? Is content drawn from other members? I noticed it uploaded my itunes library in a hurry. Wondering if other members now have access to my songs, hence the massive inventory of available music?
So I paid the $9 a montha nd am never going back. It's great because I can listen to any song I want at any time, and the interface works just like itunes so I essentially have a version of itunes I where I can listen to anything I want at any time. Best thing is that I onyl listen to music in my car and therefore streatm from my iphone, and now I don't have to waste all the space on my phone with music tracks since I can just stream them all from Spotify.
It's great because there are a lot of old songs i'd like to hear once or twice but wouldn't pay $1.30 to hear, but with spotify I am revisiting all of my old favorites! I just can't believe it's real, for only $9 you can listen to almost any artists content endlessly? How could they possibly be monitizing off of this, the contracts must cost a fortune knowing how record companies work...
Great to see Spotify is now in the US. I've been a subscriber for about a year and a half (or whenever it first became available in the UK) and will continue to be for as long as Spotify exists. The first thing I did was add all my albums still at my house in Cape Town (about 800) so now I don't have to pay to have them shipped to the UK.
I really hope Spotify is a success in the long run since personally I am against illegal downloads and this is the best effort IMO so far to offer music at a decent price in electronic format and give back royalties to the artists
One thing I don't get is people saying that they won't pay since it is too expensive. $10 a month too expensive? Given that I now have nearly 4000 albums in my library I would say its the bargain of the century.
Oh, check out the shared playlist feature. A great way to share music with friends or simply drop it into their inbox (it syncs with youR facebook account).
Ps: @Frosted - you get two invites a month to share as a subscriber. You will get some more next month. I have given away loads but akways insist that anyone I give an invite to becomes a subscriber.

Spotify isn't making money (yet) but they recently passed the millionth subscriber mark in Europe and also have major VC backing. Advertising pays for some of the rest but subscribers will ultimately ensure that Spotify is a success. In fact I heard somewhere recently that it is now only second to iTunes in digital music revenue in Europe.

I like owning my music. $10 isn't bad, and I'd consider paying it, but I wouldn't like losing my music if I closed my account. I used to have an Emusic subscription. I was paying $10 per month for 40 downloads. I had to drop my service due to money issues, but I still have the music. They've changed a lot of their terms for the worst to attract major labels, so I'll never go back, but it was fun while it lasted.

If you decide not to pay any more you still keep your playlist but are restricted to how often you can listen to each track.
