I was pretty sure there was a coffee thread around but I can't find it, at all.

Anyway, I've just bought a coffee grinder, a steel double walled coffee press/cafetiere and a kilo of Lavazza coffee beans. I've used glass coffee presses in the past with coffee that is pre ground and vacuum packed and haven't been impressed. The coffee was always too cold and the results weren't that impressive.

Fresh coffee beans is the answer. The taste is very very clean and the caffeine hit is stronger.

Altogether, the grinder and steel coffee press cost me £30. Not expensive considering it's going to last for years. Comes highly recommended, especially first thing in the morning with an Odens Extreme - the start to a perfect day.

I'm an espresso guy. Fresh beans are even MORE key for that.

Look for a local roaster, the beans will likely be better than lavazza.

Given your price on the three, the grinder was a blade one not a burr grinder? The burrs can give a much more consistent grind size.

You're absoloutely right on both counts risurfer. I'm on a budget so the blade grinder was for me - it's a good Krups one though. I'll look for those kinda beans.

I used to use the Italian percolator on the stove kind but it left you with a messy cuppa and the rubber seals deteriorated way too quickly. I can't get over how clean this coffee tastes. The caffeine is there in abundance without tasting too strong.

Good ol' bodum glass press pot or similar can give great results.
Boil good water in a pan while you grind your coffee, bring to full boil, turn off the heat, give it a little bit of time to cool. Boiling temp will actually lead to bitterness. Too cold & it's sour. Over & under extraction are their own flavors too.

Pour, stir (watch out that the bloom doesn't overtake the rim of the presspot!), sit for 2-6 minutes by taste & brew size, and press evenly. Should require a little pressure- tune your grind accordingly.

Enjoy it! I do on occasion, usually at my cottage where there's no espresso machine.

I myself use a Melitta drip coffeemaker with a thermal carafe. It has a timer so my coffee is ready for me when I get up. I usually buy whole bean coffee and grind my own beans. I used to use the grinder in the store but I hate it when someone has ground some flavored crap in the grinder before me and I have to taste it with my coffee. My favorite coffee is 365 Organic Pacific Rim Blend at Whole Foods. Otherwise, I like to use Sumatra with a dark roast. We have Peets coffee where I work and its not bad. I probably drink at least 8 cups a day.

Dream Cream is a cold brew of locally-roasted coffee mixed with medicated milk or cream, then "lightly sweetened" with cane sugar. The drink is manufactured, bottled and labeled for sale by Cheney himself in a kitchen space in an undisclosed Capitol Hill dispensary.

"It's basically a Frappuccino with the corporate stuff ripped out of it and replaced with cannabis," he said.

You can find bottles on sale for $10 at seven dispensaries in the city, including the Apothecary, Capitol Hill Patient Group, and the BOTH collective.

I've tried it, and I love it. Highly recommended!

Which Lavazza did you buy Frosted? I find the black packet is the best one. Or the gold one.

You're right, I think that this is at least the third coffee thread, but I love my coffee so I don't mind posting again!

I have a Capresso burr grinder, and a Bunn gravity fed drip coffee maker.

I use Torke restaurant blend beans, which are roasted here in Wisconsin. I drink it black during the week, and with a little half cream on the weekends. I drink coffee almost exclusively in the mornings, and I rarely buy coffee drinks from coffee shops. When I do get something at a coffee shop, it's usually something simple like a vanilla cappuccino.

How many dessert spoonfuls would you put in for a 6 cup coffee press? I overkilled it at the beginning and was buzzing like a twat on speed.
