I am a new convert to Seattle's Best Espresso. The local coffee place uses it exclusively and I am super impressed.

Take a look in antique shops for a burr grinder. If you keep your eyes open, you can find some good deals.
I'm currently using Aldi preground coffee cause I'm broke. It's surprisingly good for 34oz @ $5.30, but not exceptional. I'd be pleased if I were served that at a diner. I'm also using a Hamilton Beach electric perc. Makes better coffee than an auto drip imo.
My /preferred/ setup is this... 8 O'Clock French roast whole bean coffee ground before being made in a French press. I have an Armin Trosser grinder with Zassenhaus guts. My Zassenhaus fell apart after 15 years or so, and the Armin ground too slow, so I combined the parts. French press makes my favorite coffee, but it's harder to clean, and you have to make several small batches instead of one big one, so it stays warm.
I want to try Turkish coffee. I don't know if it was someone here that mentioned it, but it looks great. It's ultra ground coffee, and put directly in the cup with water, and you drink the whole thing.

I have an automatic ten-cup Cuisinart and usually drink an entire pot (or close to) before my early classes. Can't be too healthy....the way I look at it I'm protecting myself from Alzheimer's with my coffee and Grov habit. A cup of french roast and a farmer's pinch of lös–the perfect combination, even better than your first cigarette of the day used to be

That Delonghi looks good Ansel. I'm dragging this thread up again because I may have an coffee epiphany. I looked at those Ansel and presently it's out of my budget for a decent one.
I've been a bit of a snob at the cartridge coffee makers but I succumbed. I got the Dolce Gusto Piccollo coffee maker from Amazon for £56 which is nothing for a coffee maker. I wasn't expecting any great shakes to be honest but for that price I'd give it a go. After all it's got the 15 bar of pressure needed to get the caffeine out. No other non-pressurised coffee maker has ever done the job for me, they always leave me caffeine deficient.
Well I ordered this thing 2 days ago and it's here. Now I wasn't expecting much from the latte as powdered milk always tastes like crap. Was I surprised. This thing is indestinguishable from milk - there was a clean taste and it gave me that buzz that I've been seeking. So it seems that all the reviews are indeed true. The coffee was hot and tasted like coffee shop coffee.
All you do is fill up the back with water. Switch it on and in about 20 seconds you've got your coffee - and it is really hot too. I've only tried the latte so far so the next one I'll go for will be an Americano. I'm very very fussy about my Americano after having lots of it in New York so this will be an acid test.
Here's a video and it really is as simple and great as this

I could never fault my tassimo machine though, the espressos were good as were the long coffees, so for the price they are good value for money and good coffee.
