That's interesting. How did that come to be?

One problem I see with Islam, is it seems that fundamentalism requires conquest, and warfare. I don't think fundamental Christianity(New Testament) has that at the core. It seems like the fundamentalist Christians are more a PITA than (usually)dangerous.

What's your take on that? I grew up Catholic, but am now an apatheist, so I haven't read the bible much lately :^D The Old Testament had some hardcore shit in it, but I think the New Testament is supposed to supercede that.

It seems that islam as we know it is a mixture of propaganda and truth. The propaganda was necessary to attain power , such as fighting to spread the religion. Mohammed understood psychology very very well , as he used worldly elements of worldy pleasures and pains in describing the afterlife , and used them as a motivator and hinderance for the things he wanted muslims to do and not do. For exampe , the 72 virgins thing I dont understand , same as the horrific descriptions of torture in hell. He played it well. Many things in the religion are not open to debate , such as existance of god , as it would mean apostasy. All the things tha the apologists out there try to tell the world are extremely hypocritical , such as "islam is peace" , and "men and women in islam are equal". Furthermore , muftis make it worse , as they would rule for and against things that Mohammed nor God discussed. For example , Cannabis and tobacco are not mentioned at all. They are not forbidden , but under the very kind muftis , they are forbidden or hated. As a muslim lives his/her life , they are filled with worry of getting to hell in the afterlife.

As for violence , jihad could be to spread the religion ( I guess ) , protrct yourself , defend your home, defend your family , your honour , or as a second level , inner struggle , suc as struggling against doing terrible things to others and sins of alGl sort. The second level of jihad is not emphasized too much lately , sadly .

In short, Islam has been bastardized through the ages, and the various sects, and the inclusion of the Hadith, has destroyed an otherwise great religion.

I have totally quit all tobacco. I don't even know how long it's been. My buddy came over last weekend, who smokes, and I did smoke 3 cigs. But I'd do that occasionally when drinking anyway, and do not consider that as actively using. As such, I really haven't had an urge or reason to post in while, as I don't use tobacco now. But I always liked the openness of this forum in regards to discussing current events, and with this Norway story, I thought to contribute.

Good job Tom! I want to quit completely but don't really have a reason to right now, i'm using so little that the roll I have left is going to last me for another few months at least. I'll probably stop completely after then. Keep posting though, if you stop posting than I don' have much reason to be here anymore, you're one of the good ones tom!

I wouldn't call it hate, just sound reasoning, calling a spade a spade etc. Any religion that does radical shit and/or causes people to radical shit is probably not "an otherwise great religion", and this extends to christianity and several others as well. It doesn't matter what the religion "used to be", as religion is dynamic and all that really matters is how it acts in it's current incarnation.

Manifesto reveals killer's intent to put nicotine in ammunition, media reports claim

Anders Behring Breivik planned to inject poison into ammunition before launching his murderous assaults in Norway, British press reported Tuesday.

Norwegian authorities have not confirmed that the 32-year-old man behind Norway's worst post-World War II atrocity carried out the threat. At least 76 people died in Friday's attacks.

In a chilling 1,500-page manifesto emailed to recipients across Europe before the attack, Breivik mentioned his intent to inject lethal doses of liquid nicotine into bullets ensuring that every shot delivered a deadly blow, U.K.'s Daily Mail reported.

"I’ve now ordered 50ml — 99 percent pure liquid nicotine from a Chinese online supplier," Breivik wrote in his manifesto last year, the Mail reported. It included, "3-4 drops will be injected in hollow point rifle bullets, which will effectively turn it into a lethal chemical weapon."

Well the thing is, is it isn't just his opinion. Most wouldn't take it to the extremes he did, but there's been growing anti immigrant sentiment all over Europe. I think everyone should read his manifesto, and take on the issues it raises instead of kicking it under the bed where it can grow out of sight.

No one would have read his manifesto if he hadn't killed 80 people. Obviously, he knew that, and took so many innocent lives to perpetuate his message. Again, in my humble opinion, to allow him to have a voice in this manner is to disrespect the victims of his atrocities. He had his way on Friday, I'd rather not let him have his way with anything else.

Edit: To address your point more directly, I think it would be worthy to investigate the source of his woes vis a vis other channels. Not his "manifesto". He can turn that thing sideways and cram it up his whimpering ass for the next 21 years.

Wait, he's only going to get 21 years? Are you serious? For shooting up a place full of kids? Norway man, y'all are vikings over there, nail his ass to a cross and then burn it at sea.

I must say the norwegian governments response to this has been flawless, 100% better than the US would have responded:
