Cat Meat!

Did you guys know that in rural parts of Switzerland they eat cats and dogs? I don't know why this is so surprising, the Cantonese, Vietnamese and Korean diets aren't exactly pet-friendly, but Switzerland! While we're on the topic, how do you all feel about horse meat consumption from your geographically varied points of view?

Cats are eaten in certain rural Swiss cultures;[11] the traditional recipe on farms in some regions involved cooking the cat with sprigs of thyme.[12] In January 2004, Reuters reported that, "Swiss culinary traditions include puppies and kittens. Private consumption of cat and dog is permissible. Swiss animal welfare groups say it is hard to estimate how many pets are eaten in Switzerland every year."[13]

lol. Horse meat isn't bad, I've had it a few times although never here. The USA is the largest exporter of horse meat yet most people freak out about "noble animals" and what not. I wonder what the vegans are going to say about this thread.

Edit: correction - we export dead horses, not horse meat, to foreign slaughterhouses and the butchering is done elsewhere except for 2 slaughterhouses in Texas

Well, I've always said to my kids (about our/their pets) "Hey, the only reason we have pets is that if we ever fall on hard times we'll have a meal or two." It was more funny when they were younger, but now that their getting older, my son always says..."let's eat it now!"
