Help from fellow Iphone owners...

The bottom line is the Iphone is very much a computer in your hand, so the bigger question is what do you want to do with it. Iphone excels at many things, and compared to android it especially excels at low latency media apps, oh and battery life is typically better, although there are tweaks to both to adjust that, depending on needs. A jailbroken Iphone gets closer to Android in the way some things can work. Even still I have not Jailbroken mine, for lack of need to. The best apps for something that is a critical function for you are worth paying for. Considering how much some computer software costs this is a small price to pay. That is being said by a guy who rarely ever buys software and uses mostly Linux and BSD for his computing. The one thing I give android props on is if you are an SA and using an android tablet to control remote servers. More free and QUALITY apps for SSH as well as VNC over SSH Tunneling. If you have no idea what any of that means it is probably not relevant to you.

Example, I often administrate my BSD server from my android tablet. It is a rather pleasant experience all things considered and much better than anything I have had in any past Mobile OS.

For radio: Iheartradio - You can listen to any radio station in the country.

Not EVERY station.
I have iheartradio (mainly to listen to Paul and Young Ron in the mornings) and iRadioNOW and of course Pandora.

I would probably recommend NanoStudio over Beatmaker unless hip hop was the genre of choice, Beatmaker has been embraced by Hip Hop producers. Also Fruity Loops Mobile is out but I think that is Ipad only. Nano really is the best feature set to price of all of the choices, IMO of course.

Reviews are mixed on it, it has a FL style interface, which is very quick and easy for making beats and behind it it has sample usage but it's synth is a repackaged synth already out there (forget which one) and not the generators from the original FL. It will however export to FL. However for a powerful Synth Nano includes the Eden synth which is amazingly good and stands up to even dedicated IOS synths like Nlog.

You can actually download a free version of Nano studio that runs on mac or pc (and even on Linux with Wine) to try out the program before you buy it for IOS.

Sure, it's stunningly waterproof...but lets just say the technology left something to be desired. Going from that to an iphone 4 is like showing Mark Twain the internet...

I have dropped 3 cell phones into the toilet when pulling up my pants. No shit, they slip right out of my pocket and straight onto a turd. Definately could have used a waterproof phone back then...

What kind of phone is that? My B-I-L is totally untechy and just uses a phone as a phone. He is very out doorsy tho and that looks to be right up his alley. He's also cheap and I'm assuming there's a glut of those things on the ebay. Let me know would ya, also does it have a decent camera as that would be great for taking pictures in the outdoors as well.......

Big Blue... It's called a Boulder, and it's made by Casio... They actually make several models, but this is the only One I can vouch for....it is Completely waterproof

Feedly - my favorite RSS/news reader, syncs to Google reader and full web version
Scorecenter - scores, alerts and "The Lead" news
Bleacher Report Team Stream - sports news, well-done app
MLB At Bat - paid app, but I use it to listen to games all the time
Dropbox - syncs your files from the desktop client (and multiple computers) so you can access (view) them anywhere
Evernote - jot notes or take photos and access them anywhere (syncs to desktop client)
Flixter - movies, Netflix queue
Mint - finances, syncs to web
RunKeeper - track your activity with gps and view stats etc
Strava - same thing for cycling, plus see how you stack-up against others
Heart Rate Free - measures your HR with the camera, works really well

Mint is slick but of course you already have to sign up for their services.

My favorite app is 'mywallet.' I don't think it was cheap but it is great! I have all of my financial stuff, passwords, vehicle insurance info, even the type of ink for my printer stored. It's also great for ordering stuff online. I just run app in background and copy/paste credit card number, rather than searching for actual card and typing info in. It is also pw protected, makes me feel a tad safer if I were to lose my phone.
