yeah, boots on the ground would be nice. Maybe we can get Russia's space program to send someone, now that our space program is downright defunct.

I wish there was the same atmosphere as there was in the sixties; great public and government interest and push for going into space.
The world would be much better off if everyone were more interested in the cosmos and exploring our universe than oil, money, war, etc. We could advance so much further as a species if we really focused on education, science, and exploration.

That's what this generation needs. Some excitement like was experienced during the space race. I watched a documentary on it (haven't not lived in the 60's myself) and heard my grandparents talk about it in the past - people got really excited about space. I can't imagine what a mission to Mars would be like. If the government doesn't get their shit together and do it, I totally forsee a civilian effort to get to the red planet.
