Something that ABW said triggered something with me - don't people who are just about to have a heart attack have an overwhelming sense of impending doom?

Was the number one symptom for me! I new something terrible was going on! When I googled the symptoms I felt, impending sense of doom just jumped out at me. Saved my life as it turned out.

That's what I had with my panic attacks. Felt like a heart attack, pain in my left side, sweating, heavy breathing, and doom all around me. I went to the emergency room and had a barrage of tests. Doc said essentially, I was perfect, and more than likely it was an anxiety/panic attack.

Glad you are ok.. In healthcare we are trying to get more people in tune with what IS cause for alarm. We see people all the time who ignore the signs of heart problems because they match symptoms of so many other things. They have determined that people having heart issues(MI's unstable Angina, etc) seem to get this feeling of the end of the world is near/impending doom(like frosted said)along with their other symptoms. So, if you ever feel like your world is coming to an end when you have any of the classic symptoms you need to be checked out. It would be a lot easier to pinpoint an MI if you just had a pain in your heart but that's not what happens due to the layout of nerves in the area. It's quite variable and differs from men to women. With women we see a lot of jaw pain believe it or not but the "doom" is still there a lot of the time so it's a good sign to watch for. Remember, it is not ALWAYS there so don't rely on it....just use it as a tool..

Hope it works out well Eric! I had chest pains and an overwhelming sense of doom years ago. Had a cardiologist do all the tests and everything came back normal. Cost me $2000 and makes it hard to get through underwriting for insurance. But I know my heart is OK.
