Some of the best, most influential albums in recent times?

    I'll start.

I gotta say, I grew up in the 90s and when Eminem started making albums it was something different, and good! He tapered off, but with the release of "Recovery" last year I gotta say this album is one of the best albums in recent years.

In another route, Gaslight Anthem "The 59 sound," released in 2008 also proved to me that there is still hope for good rock/alternative music in today's times.

LMFAO is also changing the game in it's respective genre of music, with many artists following their trend.

Overall, I am pretty happy with the music being played on even the radio from say the dawn of 2010. It's getting better, I think, compared to alot of the stuff out prior to that.

Harvey Danger's "King James Version" is probably my favorite album ever.

Years later, Harvey Danger released their 3rd album "Little by Little". It was good but lost that raw edginess that was prevalent on King James. You can get that album, as well as others, for free at http://www.harveydanger.com/

The band dismantled itself after that last album was released and is gone for good. The lead singer, Sean Nelson, has done some work with other groups and more recently, started a band called Sean Nelson and His Mortal Enemies. He said he was going to release an album in 2009 but nothing has materialized to date.

Yankee Hotel Fox Trot by Wilco ........ Pretty much invented the current "F#ck the label we'll stream it on the internet model...... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yankee_Hotel_Foxtrot Not to mention it'a just pure awesomeness , as is their 96' release double disk "being there" which at the time Tweedy signed away most of his Royalties so the double album could be released at a single album price, to this date it has prolly cost him a million dollars.. Classics in my opinion.........

Well how far back is recent times. And in general or me personally, for example in a new band right now, had to learn some Jason Aldean tunes and the track My Kind Of Party is just wicked fun to play and really got me more into the "new" country vibe of the band and what to play and how to play it.

I mean other albums that majorly influenced me, as a bass player...
Mother's Milk and Freaky Styly - RHCP
Rage Against the Machine - Artist and Album
Anything Sabbath - hey Geezer Butler Rules
Anything Who - what is true for Geezer is true for Entwhistle.
                      ANYTHING PRIMUS!!!

But the number one period - Anything Bootsy Collins touches. Have I ever mentioned that I met the man himself?

Neutral Milk Hotel - In an aeroplane over the sea. Lo fi nineties from Georgia, really good stuff.
Refused - The shape of punk to come. Way ahead of its time... I wish they did not break up. This was their Magnum opus and nothing the disbanded members put out since came close.
DJ Shadow - Endtroducing. nuff said.
a tribe called quest - Lo end theory. Every tracks a classic.

nice mention for the mountain goats a few posts up.

Mountain Goats is good as well.

Neutral Milk Hotel was pretty much a staple of my teenage life. On Avery Island was also a great album by them, as well. Definitely unique and influential at least in my life. Some of their lyrics are WEIRD as hell, such as on "Oh Comely." I love that band, though. It's good to see someone else who knows them, too!

DJ Shadow and Tribe Called Quest are givens. I had that Refused album also.

Devilock, I am fairly "new" to modern country, but I can really get into it. I really like a lot of it. Joe Nichols, Jason Aldean, etc.

I guess as some of you have seen I have pretty diverse but specific music taste, I am surprised of how many semi-unknown bands are showing up in this thread!!

Dream Theater's Metropolis Part 2, from the late 90s.
Guns n' Roses' Appetite For Destruction.
Metallica's Master of Puppets ("pups" or "puppies," alternatively)
X Japan's "Art of Life" -- one of the longest rock songs ever, and definitely one of my favorites of all time. I've had this album for close to ten years and still listen to it all the time. X Japan playing it live: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m_VNlzYnN4Q
Company Flow's Funcrusher Plus, and Cannibal Ox's Cold Vein go hand in hand for AAA grade DIY hip hop.
                            Ultramagnetic MC's Critical Beatdown.

Drive By Truckers. Mike Cooley and Patterson Hood are geniuses and two of the BEST songwriters too many haven't heard of. They were at their best when Jason Isbell was with them, though. The Dirty South is my favorite album of their's. It's not my avatar for no reason. I highly recommend Decoration Day, Brighter Than Creation's Dark, Southern Rock Opera and A Blessing and a Curse, as well.
