Crappy tablets at woot.com today. Android 2.2, and slow, but would make an alright reader, and portable beater for getting online. $70 + $5 shipping. I got 2. One for my mother to use as a picture frame, and one for me as a toy, or possibly a gift for someone else. Have to inspect first. I saw this linked for hacks for this tablet, but haven't looked at it yet...

Get it here, but if you're interested, don't dally. It'll only be up until 12:00am central time, or until they sell out.

Or you could get a cheap HP touch pad for $100-200 (originally $450) and flash cyanogen mod version of android to it and have a top of the line android tablet for half the price.

I hear you. I saw some pretty good reviews on Kindle Fire. Probably going to wait until after Christmas before I start getting serious about getting one. $200 isn't bad but it will also get some nice gifts.

iPads are too expensive for a toy. $150 is the most I'd pay for any tablet, and that's really pushing it.

I bought my husband an iPad2 shortly after they came out. I have the kindle fire. I like it for the reasons I got it.. I wanted to be able to take books, comics and a couple of magazines with me without the need for a light. I wanted something with a little bigger screen for streaming movies around the house without having to lug a laptop around. I also liked it's size. The Fire does do more, but that's all I wanted. The web browser is not bad. Apparently it does email, but I never set it up. The couple of android apps I threw on seem to run well. Just be aware it does have its downsides and is in no way an iPad. I really find it difficult to put them in the same category. The fire is more like a glorified ereader the iPad more of a striped down laptop. I debated on the HPs (even had my hands on one) but decided I didn't want something I had to fiddle with and just wanted a media viewing device. It comes down to what you want to do with the device and picking which one does the job. Imho, they still have yet to make the right smartphone and tablet.

I love my Valium Tablet. With a couple of those nothing else matters.
Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to hide the bodies of the people I killed because they were annoying......

I've been wrong lots of times.  Lots of times I've thought I was wrong only to find out that I was right in the beginning.

At least on mobile platforms. Adobe is only dropping ambitions for mobile Flash, as it just isn't compatible and is too processor intensive and glitchy.
HTML5 can do mos tof what flash can, and much more efficiently. On top of that it is automatically compatable with all existing devices. Can't really compete with that. I am glad Apple took a stand against Flash on mobile devices, it wasn't ever going to be anything but clunky.

Glad I bought my iPad II 3 months ago instead of waiting for iPad III, we could be waiting a while for it I gather.
