    The Monkey Project

Here's a Straight that was sent to me by Monkey. It is a 5/8" Romo spike-point. made in Sheffield, England. Jimpless, with acrylic scales. As you can see he sent it to me for a restore and a good honing. Some serious rust was eating this thing alive. You can also see some pretty bad hone damage to the nose and spine. Pits and gouges abound. Scales weren't too bad, just needed a good cleaning and polishing.

That is hot.....it looks brand new!

I can't wait to get it in my grubby little dickbeaters and have a go at my face.

        Beautiful!

        Thank you.

Great work Owens! I like the scales on that. Not sure why, but the color and transparency is appealing.

I just got this in the mail today......

The work done on this razor is beautiful. I am super impressed with it.....and it is wicked sharp.

I can't say enough about the quality of work done.

I was growing a beard for the last two weeks and just trimmed it down with some clippers.

                  Tomorrow, the blood will flow!

Glad you like it brother. Just take your time and go slow during the learning curve. You have a strop right? I forgot to ask you. you wanna be sure to strop it real good between shaves. Good luck my friend! If you ever need it honed up just ask. Or find a good barbers hone and learn how to keep a gnarly edge on it yourself, you'll be set for life! Also any shaving technique or honing/stropping questions don't hesitate to ask!

I have a strop and am looking at getting a hone for the holidays.

The only question, besides keeping it dry, what is the best way to keep it from rusting all over again, especially around the pin?

Shit sorry bro didn't even see this.

As long as it's not wet for extended periods, it should never rust. I just dry mine off realgood, and kind of "blow out" in between the scales and around the pin, never had a problem.

Another thing - never store it in the bathroom, due to the steam. I keep all my shaving gear on my bedroom dresser for that reason.

Update: I have been keeping the razor stropped, and dry and have it stored on the top shelf of my closet.

It is an excellent shaver and, today, I had my first bloodless shave, whole face.

I was using it every other day until this past Wednesday.....I took a few days off because I was running out of bandaids;-)....oh and I cut the shit out of my neck.

Soon I hope to be able to shave in less than 30the min with it.

                            Thanks again Eric.

Sorry man, haven't been around here for a bit. Congrats on a successful shave!!

On a side note - some folks refuse to use a particular straight 2 days in a row, saying the steel needs to "rest" for a day, to let the edge microscopically straighten back out - just a thought.

Myself, I've never had a problem, though for obvious reasons I'm always using different straights. But I do have my favorite, and have used it many days in a row with no problems.

My offer still stands to re-hone it for you at no charge if you ever need it, you just pay the shipping, no big deal.

Keep us updated on your progress! Youll keep improving - I'm down to 5-7 minutes for a face shave, start to finish.

                              Eric
