    Sounds pretty routine to me and after it is cleaned the protesters are allowed to come back. Not a big deal in my mind.

      They used this same tactic to break up a protest earlier in the year, and also used it in I think Brazil to clear out the student protests.


      The fine print here is that when the protesters are "allowed to return", they have all sorts of stupid new rules like they are not allowed to lay down anywhere, and they can only return to predesignated protest areas. Pretty much this was an attempt to break it up.

      Luckily, Mayor Bloomburg called it off last second this morning and decided not to do it. The owner of Zuccoli park also withdrew his complain and said they are free to continue protesting on his property (the public park is privately owned).

      They had cleanup crews (consisting of protestors) that are cleaning it as we speak though so it should get cleaned in no time.
