220 contestants poured into the
small Bavarian village of Kucha
to take part in the day-long
event known as the Schmalzer
Snuff Festival.
The aim of the contest is to
snuff as much schmalzer from
a 5 gram box as possible
without sneezing. Contestants
have one minute to pick as
much snuff from the box as
they can and get it into their
nostrils. Once all of the tobacco
is in their nostrils, they are
allowed to use a handkerchief
to blow their nose, but sneezing
leads to an instant
disqualification. Contestants are
also graded on other points like
technique, cleanliness, and
composure.
