Originally posted by lxskllrUbuntu is aiming to get on portable devices, and I'm VERY interested in that. I'd like to have access to the full Ubuntu repos, and their Unity interface would finally make sense. I'm kind of ambivalent about Android. It just doesn't have the power/flexibility to be a serious computing device. That applies more to tablets than phones. An Android phone is a miracle in your pocket. The tablets are just n00bed up netbooks.
My next tech tablet purchase will be an Ipad2. Just waiting it out to see if I am going to upgrade my phone first or not. I have an iPhone 3gs, just updated to IOS 5 and all is well. I am eligible for an upgrade but really it works fine for me.
My reasons for wanting the iPad is musician apps that I am already invested in on the iPhone, the iPad opens real potential to use those more on stage and save lugging my keyboard for the 3 songs I use it for at most gigs. I already have to lug a bass rig to each show, a good portion of the PA, my harps (harmonicas that is) and I am being asked to consider lugging my Tenor Sax out for a song as well. Maybe I should just tell people I only play bass from now on. HEHEHEHEHE.

In the end I listen to just about every type of music and I like to be paid to entertain people. So I play whatever it takes. I listen to like everything though. Case in point, I think the three CD's in my car right now are Danzig III, Tesco Vee's Hate Police, an Alice Cooper greatest hits cd, and a Best of the Animals CD. The rest is all local artists that I get CD's from. My full music library is a big mixed bag but also mixed with a bunch of the top 40 and cheesy stuff I need when I do a DJ gig.
I tried using an android tablet on stage as an "instrument" once, and only once. It did not work well even with the best app I could find for that purpose (Caustic). I do use it on stage on occasion for set lists or cheat sheets.
The Ipad has much better music support not only in the form of OS Kernel choices but also in the form of major musical instrument and software manufacturers producing great hardware add on's and software for the device. Three that come to mind are Korg, Akai, and IK.

Lifetime MAC user who went to the dark side. The only real difference for me has been a lower price for equal if not more power. As long as CS5 is running fast/smooth for my graphic design apps.. that is all that matters to me.
THe one thing that really turned me off with MAC was the constant OS updating every other year. Now with windows 7, I am probably good for awhile but have recently learned about UBUNTU and will use that when the time comes.

Steve jobs was not an innovator he was just really good at taking advantage of stupid people. I'm not knocking him or anyone else its just a personal opinion of mine. And the theory that "macs dont get viruses" is really just the fact that noone cares enough about macs to make viruses for them. Buying a mac instead of a pc is like saying "hey i'll give you 10 cans of your favorite snus for 5 dollars orrrrr i will give you 1 can of your favorite snus for 10 dollars.....but it comes in a really sweet can.....o by the way the 1 can will have less flavor run out of flavor quicker but the can is really thin and cool" I really hate to disapoint alot of people but unless you're an engineer or photographer a mac is you paying mroe money for less performance.

Originally posted by devilock76Short answer, whatever pays. Right now playing with a country and rock act that is at present covers only, but originals are supposed to be in the works. Before that did some top 40/pop/rock cover acts. Before that was playing in a prog metal band (think Porcupine Tree/Karnivool). Here and there I jump in on some session work ranging from singer songwriter types to hip hop acts. The combo of playing bass and keys is apparently very useful in hip hop, hehehehe.

Not that hard to avoid viruses, and I'd personally call the Mac GUI the most unfriendly interface in computing. I've used Apples/Macs over the course of several iterations of the OS, and I'd still say the Apple II was the last Apple computer that shipped with sane GUI that wasn't some misdesigned nightmare to navigate.

Apple is vulnerable to viruses. Don't fool yourself. And it's really easy to not get viruses, stay off the porn and warez sites and don't open email you aren't familiar with. I have not had any virus protection on my computer in the past 6 or 7 years and haven't had not one problem. I'll stick with a Windows based machine for now, I like having full control over my machine. Like what you use and use what you like, it's that simple.
