I'm not saying open source is bad or that it does't work. I in fact think it is great and works even better. I am just saying that Stallman says things should ONLY be open-source, and I disagree. I think both the proprietary for-profit side and the open source side bring value to the table.
If RedHat or Lunix were super successfull because everyone wanted to use them than everyone would be using them. There is a reason why the market for Microsoft and Apple exists. At this stage in the game, programming is still too hard to the point where the average joe cannot participate, therefore only tech geeks and programmers usually use all open-source software. Eventually the gap will close and then open-source will be more viable but for right now it is just not accessible enough for the average joe.
