    Installing Lubuntu 2/3

Answer any questions it asks, and you'll be taken to a computer check screen where it checks your disk space, and connectivity. Btw, I suggest using a hardwire connection for the install. Anyway, if your disk space is ok, and you have internet, I suggest checking the boxes for downloading updates during install, and installing resricted media...

Hit continue, and you'll be asked your installation type. I'm using the full erase option, as I'm doing this on a blank disk. If you want to dual boot, select the second, and follow the instructions(not shown here)

Select the drive you want to use. BE CAREFUL If you have multiple drives, you could have a disaster here. Pick the right drive in the dropdown box...

Answer any questions that come up, and when you get here, enter your name, and password. The name will be your login name, and the password is for security, so don't be a lame ass like me, and use "password". Pick something good that you can remember. Use letters, numbers, characters, and different case...

Huh... at the system scan, and checkboxes? I had it hang a little in my VM, but it got going after a bit. I assumed it was because I was doing a lot at one time. Let it sit for about 10 minutes, and periodically click the Continue button to see if it'll get started.

Well, something isn't right. Have you tried it without checking the checkboxes? That can be done later. It doesn't have to be done at install. You could also try the alternate install media, but it isn't as friendly as the live cd.

          Edit:
You could also try installing from the first screen. Instead of going to the live environment, just select install at first boot. Maybe that would work better.

              You could try Xubuntu...

Or you could try the Lubuntu alternate install media. That sometimes works better, but it's a little more complicated...

Xubuntu is just a bit haevier than Lubuntu, but it's prettier, and more fully featured. If you want to try the alternate install of Lubuntu, I can probably help you with stuff you don't understand.

I don't understand why it isn't working. It does recognized your drive, right?

After looking at some xubuntu screenshots I think I may try that instead of regular Ubuntu 11.5. It looks really clean and seems ot come with a lot of stuff pre-packaged!

I wonder if you have a bad hard drive. That would explain your Windows issues too. Did you try the alternate install media?

If you have an SDcard slot, and an SDcard, you could install to that instead of your HD. A 16gb+ card would be ideal, but 4gb will work in a pinch. If your hard drive is the issue, that would bypass it, and if it works, points more strongly to a bad drive. You should also be able to check SMART status from within the Lubuntu live environment. In the menu, goto Accessories-disk utility, and point it to your hard drive. In this picture it says SMART isn't supported because it's a virtual disk, but it should work on your system. See if it reports anything interesting.
