    Yerba mate!

    Hi guys,

On a recommendation from Ansel, I bought some Yerba Mate from Uru Shop and it arrived today. If you're not aware, it's the Argentinian national drink and contains 3 xanthines (stimulants) - mateine (a stereoisomer of caffeine), theobromine, and theophylline, which act as a cocktail to not only stimulate the central nervous system but also (which is not present in tea) have a relaxing effect on smooth muscle tissue.

Well I've had a few cups and noticed that (and this is commonly reported) I have not got the jitters that I get from tea or coffee. I feel stimulated and weirdly, tobacco is much more enjoyable. There are maoi's in Yerba, and I have found that there is definite synergy with snus.

I gather that the cigarette replacement CigRX contains Yerba, which is shown to reduce the urge to smoke.

Since I don't (or try not to!) drink alcohol, I am always looking at ways to enjoy beverages with effects that do not compromise my health, and Yerba will now be a great addition to my arsenal.

If you haven't tried it, I'd recommend!

    Cheers!

It's great! How do you find it benefits you? Do you get the weird tobacco synergy thing too?

Well the 1st couple of cups I had (back to back) made me feel kind of weird, maybe stoned, nice though :-) but after that it settled down to a nice energizing pick-me-up/mood lifter.

I do find tobacco rides very nicely on it. Maybe it's the MAOIs combining...

I did have a weird sinus thing going on when I 1st got into it and so I quit it to see if it was that causing it but it went and I've since gotten back into the occasional one with no problems.

Good old 'swamp water' (with milk added) :-)
