    ACTA - SOPA and PIPA

This is a serious threat to the future of the free internet. We can't let them go through with this. And we won't allow it!

If you don't know what ACTA, SOPA and PIPA is, take a look at these videos:

    Please sign these petitions:

    http://www.fightforthefuture.org/pipa

    http://www.avaaz.org/en/save_the_internet/?rc=fb&pv=190

Spread it to Facebook, spread it to Twitter, spread the videos and the petitions everywhere you can! We have to stop this!

Thanks! It seems 13 new senators has changed their stance on PIPA to opposed, along with 10 new senators switching to opposed to SOPA. We have the power!

For you US citizens, I strongly suggest you go here and make a call to the congress. There's a script you can just read off here:

This ACTS are more serious than we could think. I'm doing everything I can to spread this around.

The US government can't profit from most of these sites that are in danger and that's why they're implementing new laws to pull them down.

There are dozens of ways to get around the U.S laws and run pirated sites and pretty much any type of websites. There's thousands of sites running at the moment that don't give a damn about their laws.

I'd laugh my ass off if youtube, vimeo, twitter and other sites would be pulled off. I mean 99% of the internet sites have SOME copyrighted content on them, the law doesn't make any sense to me as of yet but we shall see what happens.

Some of the top 1000 sites are completely illegal I wouldn't be amazed to see them go.

Amazing. Wouldn't this also affect sites like eBay, Amazon, Craigslist, Gamestop, or any other site that sells second hand copyrighted material? These are some of biggest players on the net. Could the MPAA and RIAA bring these sites down? What about film makers like say, Quentin Tarantino who's films are made with content heavily borrowed from his favorite films? They gonna arrest him along with the Weistein's? It's insane.

The best part is how the author of the bill commits copywrite infringement on his SOPA website, he used a photograph from a photographer without his permission and without crediting him whic constitutes an infringement would allow them to shut down your website if SOPA passed. The irony is just too thick.

Additionally, if they can take down any website that EVEN LINKS to copywrited information than you may be thinking, "lol we should post a bunch of TPB links all over senate.gov's comment section so that it gets taken down for linking to illegal sites". The problem there though is of course that the government has EXEMPTED ITSELF from these rules, and no .gov website has to follow new the SOPA rules due to a provision they conveniently placed in there.

The solution: Use places like senate.gov as a place to post all your torrent info since they can't take the page down as a SOPA violation.

IMO, there is almost no website that doesn't contain copyrighted material

Show me one and I'll prove that it DOES contain copyrighted material.

                    Even Google does, lol.

REDDIT NOW HAS IT'S OWN PAC. They will be voting on how to spend the money and will use it for things like electing representatives who are against SOPA/PIPA etc.

                      http://www.reddit.com/r/politics/comments/onb6f/introducing_test_pac_the_special_interest_group/

We are registered with the Federal Government. Our tax-ID is 45-4126666 (I believe those of you on 4chan call that "dubs" or something.)
All of our financial activity is monitored and audited by the Federal Election Commission, and every one of our expenditures will be published on fec.gov. You will see exactly where the money goes, as well as how much money we have.
So what now? We need to (1) get money, (2) decide how to spend it, and (3) spend it. I'll cover these three points in order.
                      Getting Money
There are two ways that the PAC can make money. First, we will be having monthly or quarterly fundraisers by selling products (either "pay what you want" or less than, say, $5) such as ebooks, all made/written by actual Redditors who agree to donate a portion of the proceeds to the PAC. The first fundraiser will start in about a week. The fundraisers will be posted in /r/rpac by me and I will ensure that the correct amount of proceeds are allocated to the PAC, and post proof after each fund-raiser as well as the amount we raised, for security reasons.
The PAC can also receive funds 24/7/365 via Dwolla or Piryx. It's easier than using Paypal, and instructions are on the PAC's donate page.
If you have a service or product you'd like to use to (1) promote your product and (2) donate at least 50% of the proceeds to the PAC, send an email to info@testpac.org.
Deciding on How to Spend Money
Currently, we do not have the infrastructure to decide how to allocate expenditures. Most PACs meet in a board room, have a chairman, and take a vote. Two problems. (1) We are on the internet, and (2) we currently have no voting system that is safe from 4chan or the Mitt Romney campaign gaming our voting system. For now, any of these discussions can take place in the PAC's subreddit, /r/rpac.
When I created the PAC, I had three expenditures in mind:
1.) Donating money directly to Redditors running for political office, such as these people: Sean Closson, Dr. Michael Ham, Jeff Block, Zachary Meyer, Jonathan Wallace, Peter Marchetti, Joel Tyner, Mike Scala, and everyone else whose name I have apologetically forgotten to include here.
2.) Running political advertisements on issues Redditors are vocal about, such as SOPA/PIPA, cannabis prohibition, net neutrality, and preferential voting systems.
3.) Funding causes like Directing Democracy, which aim to educate and inform Americans on citizenship democracy, and capitalism. Democracy requires an educated and informed populace, and while some companies serve their interests by mis-educating and mis-informing, it is our duty to fight back by teaching our countrymen in a non-biased way.
Of course, this is a Democratic organization, so our expenditures are up to you, not me.
                      Spending Money
This is the part I'm most excited about. Rather than hiring video production teams and spending $50k on a commercial, we can hire actual Redditors to do our work. We can put a post in /r/forhire detailing the project we would like completed, ask for quotes, and give the job to Redditors.
When products are completed, we'll post them on the official Test PAC Website and then put the ad on TV or the radio, in magazines or newspapers, or on the internet.

                      tl;dr: We got a PAC

I am going to donate like a mofo to this. For years I have said we should hire lobbyists to do our bidding and this is the closest thing we can get to that. Like Colbert, we can use this PAC to make commercials with whatever message we want. For those familiar with reddit and for those who are not, check it out.

Some insiders told me that Megaupload.com was permanently taken down.

It ranked world's #72 website hosted in Bankok, seems that the US laws will make dramatic changes online this years.

A couple more sites will be pulled down shortly

SOPA is not yet applied though. Hope Megaupload (+ Megavideo I noticed) is only down for a short time.

They also arrested founder Kim Dotcom and 3 others.
