Confirmed: 1976 Mars Probe found life on mars

    Study Source:
    http://ijass.org/On_line/admin/files/2)(014-026)11-030.pdf

Published in the International Journal of Aeronautics and Space Sciences.

Basically the Viking probe was the only one who took soil samples to detect life, didn't find anything at the time (they found something, but assumed it was geological in nature). New study of it using modern concepts and technology reveal that Viking did in fact detect microbial life on Mars back in 1976.

Joseph Miller, neuropharmacologist and biologist with the University of Southern California Keck School of Medicine, told Discovery News:
"The ultimate proof is to take a video of a Martian bacteria. They should send a microscope -- watch the bacteria move," Miller said.

"On the basis of what we've done so far, I'd say I'm 99 percent sure there's life there," he added.

Yah it was very interesting. Essentially, the way they did it originally was they took the samples, observed the gasses from them after putting it through a process, and determined the gases to be geological in natur (non-organic). Apparently they did this by studying the complexity of the gases that came out or something and apparently that method was flawed. Now that we know better, we re-analyzed the samples and it is clearly life. The control group shows as clearl non-organic, and the ones containing life show as organic.

It just happened, but apparently the fact that life exists on another planet doesn't seem to be a big deal on the news or anything. Probably because it's only microbes. But the fact microbes are alive on mars currently is a huge deal compared to what we thought in the 80's even. We have learned a lot about our solar system just since I was born. We now know that water is abundant and even liquid on many planets and, now, that life even exists on other planets. We need to get a mission out to Europa and get under those sheets of ice to see what is living in those oceans of liquid water which have all of the chemicals necessary for organic life. Something has to be living there for sure.

I've read and watched some stuff on Europa which totally blows my mind. Really cool. The photos of the steam, ice, water jets is pretty amazing! Lately I've been combing netflix science docs every night.

Yah for real, I figured it would have pulled him out of the darkness just to comment on the life on mars thread but no luck.
