I love how walmart sometimes hires the physically [and occasionally slightly mentally] challanged. If I were you I would mention to the manager about getting this fellow a "pick up stick" to make his job easier and more productive. It might be something that simplly needs to be brought to their attention. If they didn't get him one I would buy the dam thing for him. And I would also have much less respect for walmart.

I don't usually eat cereal for breakfast, and I don't usually eat candy cereal, but I hadn't had them in awhile, so I bought a box last night. Story behind that...

I went to Walmart to get cereal cause I had milk I needed to get rid of, and I also wanted ice cream. Walmart changed their policy getting rid of door greeters. They have them do other more useful things now. Well, one of their door greeters is wheelchair bound. He has 2 gimpy legs. I don't know what the problem is, but it may be a birth defect. They don't look quite right. Anyway, he wheeled up to the cereal aisle and tried putting a box of Chex squares on the shelf, and promptly dropped it. He then tried another box, and dropped that one, and also knocked a plastic sandal out of his chair, and onto the floor. I shelved that box, and handed him the sandal. He then told me about the cereal boxes in the main part of the store. They were bigger than average, and were specially marked for Walmart running a donation program to feed the hungry in America. Well, they were mostly candy cereals and Cheerios which aren't my favorite, but I did decide to get the Lucky Charms since I hadn't had them in a long time. The price per pound wasn't as bad as it usually is.

Point? Well, I thought it was cool that Walmart kept the handicapped guy on, but at the same time, I kind of felt bad for the guy. It's hard to find a place in retail he can work given his handicap. I'm hoping the dropping thing was just a run of bad luck, and he usually does ok, or may be out of a job eventually. I left the store with conflicted feelings last night. At first I was pissed off because I was walking behind a fat black family that was walking side by side, and at sloth speed so no one could pass, but after that I was reflecting on the handicapped guy's position. He could use some hand operated tools to help him out. A shelf picker he could use to place things on the shelf, or off the floor would be a big help, and he could clip it to his chair. I almost wish I worked there so I could hook him up.
Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to hide the bodies of the people I killed because they were annoying......

I've been wrong lots of times.  Lots of times I've thought I was wrong only to find out that I was right in the beginning.

That could backfire. I don't have faith in others' good intentions. They could use that as an excuse to get rid of him. "One of the customers complained about your performance. We're gonna have to let you go". Truth is irrelevant when dealing with mouth breathing managers who think way too highly of themselves. I was avoiding Walmart, but I may start stopping in more often and keep an eye on that guy. I'm sure I could source a picker pretty easily, and just give it to him. That way no one would have to know anything, and he'd get extra points for taking initiative to improve his performance.

I've made it a point several times to let the management know how much its appreciated that they hire challanged workers and how its preceived by the customer. They have all responded accordingly and thanked me for the noticing and my input.

LX, I suppose I'm more of an optimist.
