15 essential things you need when you celebrate Swedish midsummer!

1, Maypole - This is the weird occult object you dance around and sing “Små grodorna” (tiny frog-song). Like this.
2, Sill (Harring). This fish is the most important dish today. Spiced of course.. A favourite for many Swedes is the mustard one but there are several ones!
3, Swedish fresh potatoes with dill. To be eaten with sour cream, chives and the fish.
4, SNAPS!* Strong spiced shots. Normally flavored with typical swedish herbs and flowers. Many Swedes experiment and make their own flavours. Some succeed..
5, Loads of Eggs! Preferably cut in half and with topping on them.
6, Spiced Salmon, a classic dish on Swedish Holidays.
7, A garden with a big table with small Swedish flags on and Swedish wild flowers.
      8, Strawberries for dessert!
9, Freshly picked flowers to put in your hair. Here’s a guide how to do it!
10, Beautiful clothes, normally people dress in white or blue colors. Some are more oldschool and dress in traditional costumes.
11, Evening activities in the garden such as kubb and boccia.
12, Intrigues! When Swedes get drunk we get dramatic and many partners are arguing on midsummer.
13,* Swim suits. Many of us celebrate by the ocean and take our first swim in the ocean this day!
14, Cheesy Swedish songs on the stereo. A big plus if the artists sings about summer in Swedish. Try Tomas Ledin as a starter…
15, Rain. Even though the weather forecasts says it will be sun and beautiful weather you can make damn sure it will start raining some how. It’s an ancient tradition and the Norse gods still like to mess with our finest and best holiday!
