    Finally Moving

I haven't been posting that often lately but this is still my 'default' forum. It's the first one I check each day. Anyway, the title says it pretty much, I'm finally moving out of Nebraska.

I will be moving to North Carolina within three weeks. My girlfriend landed a job in Raleigh. It's not Seattle like I was hoping for, but it's not Nebraska anymore and as long as I'm with her I'm happy wherever lol. We are planning to fly to Raleigh on Wednesday to start looking for apartments. It has happened quicker than we were expecting but I couldn't be more excited.

So, a fairly pointless thread in retrospect, I'm just beyond excited and felt like sharing the news with you guys.

Congratulations! Anywhere within driving distance to a beach is a good location.

Congratulations! At least you're moving to an old tobacco state. It's a shame about the temperature though :^D

Tell me about it, haha. We'll have air conditioning so I'll be living in that while it's sweltering. My air conditioning broke last year and it's been pretty miserable because of how hot it has been getting here lately, so despite being further south, it will be better just having central air again.

Thanks guys. I have heard that North Carolina is beautiful. Have yet to be there myself although that will be rectified on Wednesday. We have some appointments set up to view different apartments/ townhouses. If anyone is interested I will keep you updated in this thread.

              Good luck with the move.
NC is beautiful country, driven through it many times as I have family in TN and GA.
I still have 15 or so years to go but when I retire I will be moving somewhere in the south.

My family and I have lived in NC for about 6 years now. Raleigh is for sure a nice area. Close to lots of fun stuff but a neat town in it's own right. We just recently moved out of the mountains (thank god, so dang damp all the time and so much mold everywhere) but I'd have to say, we've been pleased overall. Pretty decent economy as long as you stick with the larger cities.

Not sure how the schools are out east, but out west they are surprisingly good.

Well, from our three day trip we found an apartment. $740 a month for 2 bed 2 bath at 1095 square ft. It was the cheapest and nicest we could find. Had to go outside of Raleigh, a little town of 11,000 people called Mebane. Getting closer to Raleigh it was averaging over 800 to 950 a month for comparable or less square feet.

Move in date is the 31st so I'll leave early Monday/ late Sunday night as it's at least a 20 hour drive. I'll be towing a trailer so I'm thinking more around 24 hours. As this is the first move I've done, I didn't really realize how expensive it would be. I spent $720 today getting my car ready for the trip. I have to spend another $320 to have a trailer hitch installed and another $200 to rent a trailer. It's a lot of money, but still quite a bit cheaper than the other alternatives I've looked at.

Not much into sports. I only pay attention to hockey, baseball, and formula 1 lol.

Thank's for the well wishes. I'm heading out tomorrow morning around 5am. I unfortunately have to tow a 4x8 u-haul trailer with a 2002 Monte Carlo SS. Certainly worried about towing the trailer but I had the car completely tuned up and checked out a couple days ago. As I have no other option I believe I'm as prepared as possible and should be fine as long as I drive cautiously and defensively.
