If telemarketers are bothering you with unwanted calls, you can register with the National DO NOT CALL Registry by taking the following steps:
You must do this on the phone that you wish to register. If you have a cell phone as well as a wired house phone, you need to make two calls - one on each system.
Should you accidentally answer one of these unwanted calls and they start their pitch, press "0" and they must stop and automatically place you one their "DO NOT CALL" list. This is what the helpful person at Verizon Wireless recently suggested to me. Unfortunately, I believe political calls are exempt!
- Call 888-382-1222
- Enter "1" for English (yes, I know!) and wait for the next message
- Enter "1" again to register and wait for the next message
- Enter your 10-digit phone number and wait for the last message and then they hang up
