    Just checking in...

What a great place this is (I think). I've been almost 'living here" for a few days, taking it all in and doing my homework. This is my first post and I wanted to take the time to thank you all for your knowledge, willingness to share it, and mostly, your enthusiasm. Some of you are quite prolific, which is very helpful for a newb like me. My story's similar to many; smoker, stumbled upon Camel snus and found my way here. I've been a cigarette smoker for about thirty-five years. Snus may just still save me from smoking. Pretty cool.

I placed my first order from Buysnus, and got it in four days. Eight cans. My first days snussing was definitely spent in nicotine overload. Of the eight, four I like and four just gotta go. I think 50% isn't a bad first strike, so it's all very promising. I'll be placing my second order for a different variety, and I'll be posting a trade soon. That's about it for now. Cheers!

    Welcome to Snuson Rob!

Your story is very similar to many of us here. Long-time smokers converted to snus. There is a great group of people here that you will get to know.

What eight snus types did you buy, and which were the ones you liked? You may want to just bench the ones that you disliked for a while and try them again at a later daye. It is amazing how often tastes can stray with snus.

I have a few mainstay flavors, but I often get several random cans with each order just for a change of pace when I feel the urge.

Thank you for the welcome Xobeloot,

      The initial order was:
      PM 1847
      Ettan White Portion
      General ONYX Portion
      General Sterk Portion
      Göteborgs Rapé No2 Portion
      Göteborgs Rapé White Portion
      Jakobssons Classic Snus
      Jakobssons Ice-Fruit Snus

I've no plans to buy los. For now, I'm happy to stick with portions. I'll have some fun with this journey and I know over time my discernment will become more refined, but still... some of this stuff just isn't for me. So much snus, so little time.

Initial impressions; I like the Onyx a lot and I'll keep this one on hand. Ettan's a keeper and I'll try the original next time. General Sterk has good nicotine. It's not bad but I find it bland. I don't think I'll re-order it. Jakobssons Classic has something going on that I've yet to discover or appreciate but I think I like it.

I tried everything the first day. My head was really spinning from the nicotine. I do rush to judgement and I realize this is an acquired taste. Just to be sure, I tried 'em all again the next day. I'm not a mint kind of guy, and some of these 'flavorings' just aren't for me. That said, The Ice-Fruit's gotta go. Same for both the Goteborg's. I see a lot of folks like 'em but they're not my brands. I don't care for the PM1847 either. I'll be putting these four cans up in the snus trade thread.

I'm finding that I like a pure tobacco taste. A little salt's OK, but some snus (to me) has an overwhelming salt content. I do like some 'flavors', just not the mint or herbal ones. Pepper, salt, citrus, smokey, and some sweet is what I'm looking for.

I like the Camel Spice. If it were half as sweet with twice the nicotine, I'd like it a lot more. Original's OK too. I think I'll keep some Camel Spice around for a once in a while late night desert.

      Gonna mix it up a bit more on the next order;
General Onyx, General Portion, Gotlandssnus yellow, Probe Whiskey, Grovsnus Portion, Roda Lacket, Offroad Coffee Vanilla, and N&J portion or maybe Skruf strong. I like to try the Triumph original but have nowhere to get it.

Do you have any other suggestions or cautions?

      Thanks again,
      Rob

Well, per my sig, my favorites are far from most others favorites.

Based on what you have said you like, I'd suggest you try some Grov and some N&J East. Roda Lackett is also quite nice.

Grov is simply a rich tobacco with a mild smokiness. Granit is very similar to Grov but a bit cheaper.

If you decide to try out some loose, I'd say Ettan (same as portion), Grov (same as portion), Roda Lackett (slightly less sweet than portion) Prima Fint (simply pure/sweet tobacco, only available as loose), Phantom Classic (the most peppery snus I have ever used with a nice citrus)

The thing to keep in mind is that I primarily use loose, so all my suggestions are based on my experience with it. I assume that the portion flavor may vary slightly, but not enough to stray way off.

After 35 years of smoking, your tastebuds have a lot of recovering to do. THings that taste great now, may not in a month and vice-versa.

The four things you will never find me without are:

Phantom Classic Los _Very peppery w/ citrus
Phantom Blue Los_Herbal and sweet with mild tobacco (probably not good for you if you dont like the sweet/herbal stuff)
Offroad Cran Los_Mild tobacco with a nice bitter-sweet cranberry taste
        Grovsnus Los_As described above

Appreciate the advice. Going to stay with portions for now but it's all working out well. The four cans I didn't like have already been traded off, and I placed another order with Buysnuss.

          General ONYX Portion
          Gotlandssnus Gulsnus (Yellow) Portion
          Grovsnus Portion
          Nick and Johnny Portion
          Offroad Coffee Vanilla Portion
          Probe Portion
          Röda Lacket White Portion

I never thought the process of quitting smoking could be so interesting.

          Regards,
