    GOD DAMNIT!

I just went and spent $70 on a f@cking micro-SD card, put it into my phone, only to learn that the Samsung Galaxy S3 DOES NOT ALLOW YOU TO MOVE APPS ONTO THE SD CARD. I'm so ****ing pissed. So now I can't move any apps to the SD card as it is blocked by Samsung, and looking on the internet apparently everyone is pissed that this hasn't been addressed yet.

God damnit. Now I ma out 70 bucks and I am stuck with the 16gb of storage it came with. I am going to go talk to the f@ck over at the AT&T store because he told me that the memory was expenadable up to 64 gigs of additional mem via the SD car, but that's a lie. You can only move pictures and shit onto the SD card, but not apps.

TO further elaborate according to their rep: They don't want people copying apps to sd card because they are afraid of piracy, all new model phones will be following this in future releases (also not alllowing apps to go on external memory), and that they are not planning on changing it anytime soon as this is the new way they are doing things. They also say how, coincidentally, they've just released a 32 gig model in case you need more internal storage.

Hopefully, I havn't returned much at bestbuy but I think I have 15 days. Still this completely ruins the phone for me now. The memory is not expandable and I got the one with only 16gb, which after the OS etc is accounted for is actually 11 gigabytes. Many games are 1-2GB by themselves so that means only a few games and apps before I reach capacity, that is not how it was advertised to me.

I can't believe I sold my iphone for this ****ing bullshit. I could have jailbroken my iphone and had everything android offers but would run much faster and have tripple the battery life. Very upset right now.

            1st world problems bro.

You might get used it. I think mine is pretty fkn rad but I've never had an iphone. And we don have different phones. Mine has no freezing problems or texting problems or any problems for that matter. Battery does drain but I'm learning to keep that in check.

You have 16 gigs of internal memory. In that case the apps footprint internal should not be a big deal. However you could always root it to change this issue into a win.

It's just that for years ive been hearing everyone say that iphone is just an overpriced, underpowered toy that is for newbies and is super locked down etc and is just the worst thing on earth compared to Android, but now that I am on android I am thinking that it is just as locked down and their hardware is shit.

I'm just pissed because i'm stuck with this for 2 years now before I can switch back, unless I want to spend $700 on an iphone (the same model that I just traded in for $145).

It is rooted already, what do I do to "turn this into a win"? It's "16 gigs", but only 11 gigs is available, that is not enough for all the apps and shit I want to put on there over the next 2 years. Is there some way around this, because all of the android forums says there is not, even if you are rooted.

This is like the iphone all over again, the only way to do anything usefull is to jailbreak it (or in this case ROOT it)....

Yeah, that sucks. Root it, install a custom rom, and give them the middle finger. No matter how hard they try to stop users from doing what they want, we'll always win.

On an unrelated note: I just picked up a Samsung Focus Flash for $100 from Craigslist. I love it so far. I've got a soft spot for eye candy, and Windows Phone 7 is full of it. And it's very optimized, so it's snappy as hell.

But will instlaling a custom ROM allow me to move things to the SD card? This is just such bullshit, I can't believe I got talked into buying this under the impression that I could move things tot he SD card and expand it's memory that way.

I would think so. On my Nexus One, I had the ability with Cyanogenmod.

Are you sure you are stuck with it, I mean in the end that depends on your carrier, their return policy, and how long ago you bought it.

Nexus one is a bit different, as a Nexus model it is pretty much Vanilla android, no manufacturer bling and it is made to be future compatible for android updates.

This whole thing is surprising to me but let us get to the nitty gritty. My devices I need that SD card as the internal memory is minimal. Yours has 16 gigs, just like the base iphone. That being said the average app is about 10-20 megs. In short it would take between 800 and 1600 apps to fill up 16 gigs of space (excluding of course existing OS space.

You might not need to worry so much about the SD card thing with that much space. App away and use the SD card for media and you should be fine. I don't care who you are after 100 apps it gets a bit much, but you should be able to handle that no problem.

If not there is a program out there called app2sd that was for older androids before they allowed the install to SD card feature. Maybe that might do something for you.

Anyone who speaks extremes of iphone vs android either way is just a fan boy. They both have their pros and cons. However manufacturers are more and more locking down android their own way, often to the detriment of the OS. Rooting is the solution to that if need be. I will say one thing though that I love about android, not needing Itunes.

Example. I had an Iphone for two years, a little more. It worked great, some things I wanted to do on it weren't that free and open but I could do just about anything I needed to for the most part. I never jail broke it, it was fine. I have a Viewsonic Gtablet, it came to me used rooted with VeganRom. Never switched, VeganRom worked great. Now I have a samsung charge and it is not rooted. Still the stock OS (FP1 kernel) some minor glitches but installing to SD card was the biggest fix for me. Eventually I may root it, but in no rush, it works fine for me. Next phone though, I am either going for a higher end android or back to iphone, even though I hate itunes. Tablet wise I debate an Ipad, but lately I am thinking I would rather save my money for an ultrabook with an SSD drive. Only players in that game I like are Toshiba's Protege series and of course the Macbook Air. Anyway I slice it, if buying new retail, even though higher priced the Macbook air seems to win. They now have these google chrome books coming out but I am not sold on that yet. The desktop series might be interesting as a web tv like computer.

The bottom line is that this Linux geek and IT guy uses what he needs to do get the job done. There is no overall best. Android can work quite well, but sometimes it comes across half baked. Iphone can work quite well, but some times it can be restrictive and the apps cost more and it requires Itunes.
