I saw this yesterday. I have no problem with banning people smoking in workplaces, pubs etc. but banning people from smoking in open air areas is a blatant infringement on our freedoms. How dare they. If anybody is offended by smoke outdoors, barbeques, burning garden waste etc should be banned along with car exhaust fumes. It's outrageous and extremely offensive that anybody could think like this. I'd love to find the people responsible and give them a good slap. I hope the people of Blackpool do.

I would have thought they should/would ban the drinking of alcohol in parks first.

Is it ghetto? Usually they pull this nonsense in the higher end areas.

No! I love that about Europe! Let's talk about that shall we? In the UK and elsewhere, even China FFS, the government doesn't care if you walk around or sit outside with a nice frosty beer in hand or a few nips of whiskey in your back pocket. Now that is a wonderful thing. Here, they have decided it's against everyone's best interest if alcohol is not consumed in public places. I would be hassled and fined for getting off the bus on the main street by my house, buying a tall can of beer and drinking it as I walk home through my neighborhood from a grueling 9 hour workday. But goddammit I do it anyway.

edit: oddly though beer sales stop at what is it... 10PM in London? Not in the pubs but in shops.

Ghetto doesn't come close!! Think Reno but worse by the sea but full of old people, smackheads, the dregs of society, a theme park, a crappy replica of the Eiffel tower and lights along the sea front. It's not a nice place, but there are a lot of bars that sell pints of beer for £1.

That's why you gotta do it proper:

Kidding. It's still technically against the law, and they could fine you ($27)... Just be discreet about it and don't draw attention (the police are looking for the rowdy bunch).

It is one of our saving graces, there are parts of some cities that are alcohol free zones but only on the streets, as long as you are inside the pub its cool, but get caught with an OPEN drink and oh dear lord, you will have to pay a £50.00 fine Apart from that its quite socially acceptable in places to walk around with a beer. Sitting in a park having lunch with a bottle of wine or few beers is great and you get no hassle doing it. Gangs of kids drinking cheap cider on the otherhand is a big no no

The 10pm thing (was actually 11pm) stopped a few years ago when 24hr licencing came in. You couldn't buy alcohol outside a bar or pub with an after hours licence after 11pm, if it was a 24 hr supermarket the alcohol isle had a little rope over it saying no not till 10.30am you can't. Now you can buy boozer 24hrs a day except Sundays when its 10.30pm in pubs and 4pm (sunday trading laws) in most shops but garages, offlicences and corner shops open after that can still sell it till 10.30pm.

I love the garish beach theme of years past. Arcades, bright flashing lights, with degenerates, kids and families getting along reasonably well on the boardwalk. Ocean City MD had a lot of that, but I was last there about 10 years ago. The old hotels are getting torn down, and everything is getting a corporate commercial veneer. It reminded a bit of a mall, where you have the same old shit presented to in the same way as everywhere else. It's losing it's character :^(

A very bad Atlantic City would be a good way to describe it. It now just seems to attract the worst aspects of society and hen and stag partys intent of getting drunk and having a fight. I have no intention of going back! I had a trial there last week and sent a mate of mine to do the hearing, it is famous for its rock (a very hard minty candy) which is very cool so he got me a few sticks, but he must have got it from an "erotic" sweet shop as the writing inside said, "wanker" and the other one said "cum breath"! Google Kiss Me Quick hats too, thats a popular Blackpool thing lol.
