      I love Bill Nye

      But……….

I think when any serious study seeks to silence its opponents with propaganda.....it is bad form.

Regardless of where you stand on the issue........that was completely vacuous and void of substance........but most of all it was bad for the furtherance of science…….

Agree or you are an idiot……..

we have heard this very thing before…..only then it was Galileo who was the lone voice against the certain trends of his time

However……lest we fall prey to claims that we have merely answered vacuity with sentimentality…….let us pose a simple question

How can laws and math and statistics tell us anything about a randomly generated factuality? Are they not mere invented grids of regularity imposed over a sea of ever changing irregularity and flux?

That is a huge issue............no.......IT IS THE ISSUE

No No No Dog….the world is random but it works according to patterns developed over time

Ok so it is like there was never any air and there is still no air but over time it is all air…….except it must remain not air………right………don’t let anyone EVER look down on your sophisticated system of thought…….

In the past I would have spent a great deal of time trying to explain why this is such a important dilemma..........now I will just point you to a search of the Fictive View of Science

It seems that Bill is still living in the naive world where random and realism coexist in an inexplicable union of blind faith (such as would make the most ardent fundamentalists blush)

Time to grow up Bill...........serious science has moved on….or at least it proceeds knowing that the Emperor may in fact not be wearing any clothes
When it's my time to go, I want to die peacefully in my sleep, like my uncle did....... Not screaming in terror like his passengers

The video is in reference to the ongoing conflict of teaching evolution and/or creationism in the public school system (applicable to the Southern states).

It wasn't intended as an attack on a person's faith or religion.

Crow I did not take it as such

nor did I intend my reply to be anything more than a warning against thought monopolies (regardless of the ideas)

A school of thought that is no longer secure enough to field questions from the opposition is an intellectually dead tradition-- Alasdair MacIntyre

The question that I posed was merely to demonstrate that there are serious challenges FROM WITHIN science itself that should temper any such smugness like that of Bill’s.

          I love Bill

I tire easily of silliness from either side of any debate

Also Sgreger is on hieatus…….so somebody had to step up and fill in……….

          Peace

              .....................and the cheeze stands alone
Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to hide the bodies of the people I killed because they were annoying......

I've been wrong lots of times.  Lots of times I've thought I was wrong only to find out that I was right in the beginning.

Fair enough. I suppose the delivery is a little 'smug'. You make a good point though, science hasn't nearly solved all of the world's mysteries; there is still a vast amount of knowledge that we have yet to discover (and there are some things that we will most likely never discover).

He touched on it perfectly. When your answer to lifes questions is "god did it" it really holds back further advancement. Does god want people in Louisiana dead or do we need to get some shit together to help protect people from natural disasters? Theres a vast world out there that lets you explore so many questions....i remember being maybe 12 and i spent hours everyday reading about some "planet-x" thingy. I dont even remember what it was about and i didnt care that it ended up being a hoax.... i was exploring, i was learning, i was discovering and learning things previously unknown to me. When you ask a question and stop it at "God" it really holds you back from further information. Some of these people that get stuck in this creationist world could have been great engineers capable of building entire cities that would withstand any natural disaster, but for every one person that is sitting on the creationist side thats one less person that could have made that next huge leap in advancing society.

I will agree the delivery is somewhat smug, but he's Bill Nye. He's like the Bill Murray of the science world haha. Oh, and good ole' Kentucky conservatives are trying to remove evolution from our schools again :/
