    Hello from England!

Hi.I'm a new user to snus. This is a great forum.I really like the community spirit and helpfulness of posters here.

A bit about my experience with snus. I heard about snus relatively recently.I was recently doing some online searches about cigars and other nicotine related products and I stumbled across this wonderful product.
After a 'little research' I went for the least imaginative option...the Swedish Match Tasting Kit MINI (8 cans) from buysnus.A slightly unfortunate choice since 6 of the cans were white portion and ,hearing what other members had to say about them,I was trying to avoid that snus. However it gave me an opportunity to taste them to see whether they were for me.
Let's put it this way I like the 2 cans mini black portions of general and catch licorice .I've gained an appreciation of the taste and texture .But the white portions with their dryness, lack of taste and almost abrasiveness coarseness do comparatively little for me.

Has anybody here grown to appreciate the taste and texture of white portion or this something you either like or you don't?

I'm now thinking of making a large order with buysnus and buying a couple of rolls of original portion general and catch licorice.
I'm thinking of a few other cans to try out.

What do the forum members here suggest?

Ha Ha!! The Brits are taking over.
I really like General portion and Nick & Jonny. A bit strong but yummy.
I've just introduced a 10 a day cigar smoker to the pleasures of snusing, he now hasn't smoked for a week.
This stuff is just so much nicer than smoking.

        Oh yeah!

As for Nick & Johnny I don't know.
At this point in time ,the nicotine content is liable to kill me...something for the future maybe.
I'm looking at Grovsnus or Ettan.Have you tried them?
Also. is Mocca Plus Tobacco flavor (STRONG) white portion or original?
        Also what is stark snus?

The mocca is a white portion. Drier than most white portions.
          Stark means STRONG.
          General spells it sterk.
          It means more nicotine.
The Northerner lists the nicotine for most snus. It gives you some sort of idea of the kick, but there is more to the equation than purely nic content alone.
General makes a silver portion if you want a step down in nicotine.

              Hi gaur1983

Great to see another UK snus user. I am probably in the minority here but I sometimes prefer white portions over regular portions. I am a big fan of both General and Ettan white portions because the flavour lasts really long and it's great when drinking beer.

I would suggest trying some of the brands that sit between a white and a regular portion - Skruf Original portion, Knox, Gotlandssnus and Jakobsson's

But you are correct. Some people just never come round to white portions.

I would be hesitant to buy rolls this early on if I were you.

One thing I've learnt is that for at least the first three months part of the joy of snus is in discovering what you like most. And if you browse this forum you will notice that a lot of members are still ordering a wide range of snus even after a year.

But each to his own I guess and if you feel confident that you enjoy it that much go for it. You can always freeze it and use it over time.

              As to suggestions.

If you like licorice I would recommend the Romeo y Julieta and Gotlandssnus Gråsnus (Grey) Portion. They are my favourite licorice/anis flavoured portions.

The Montecristo portions are very very good and have an excellent tobacco taste. On a similar level is Grov, Knox, Skruf Original, Ettan and Retro Original.

Then of course there are the Gotlands products. They are all excellent, especially the Yellow and Jakobsson's Classic. And if you like elderflower you have to order the Green.

If you enjoyed General it might also be worth throwing in a can of the 1847. I like it but it won't replace General.

Then of course there is GR#1&2 and the Roda Lacket and the Retro White and then you haven't even started with the loose.........

Mocca is white portion. The Mocca+ is an original portion and tastes very similar to Grov or Retro Original.

Personally I am not that crazy about it because I find it runs very quickly and I can't get used to having mini portions anymore.

Also I find that it leaves my gums feeling quite raw, which I found strange considering I've used snus for 9 months now and never had that problem before. Guess its just me. Most other forum members really like it so I would suggest a tin

                Welcome gaur1983,

I'm originally from the UK myself but have been living in the US since 1986. It's nice to see that snus is gaining some traction in the UK, I recently shipped a try-out box to my cousin in Bromley and he is having success quitting smoking with it. I would agree about trying the Jakobsson's and Gotlandssnus varieties, very mellow and somewhere between a white and a brown portion. I usually don't like white portions myself but am really enjoying the new General Sterk, doesn't seem as abrasive as many.
