Speaking of smoked salmon. Our friend Roo was kind enough to send me some straight from a fish market in Seattle. He said it was from the the best place in the area. Can't remember exactly. OOOH but was it choice. Can't believe your eating supermarket stuff when you are so close to the Real thing.....

Yeah, you can't beat the fresh stock at Pike Place, and I do get my fish there most of the time.

But... You've got to try the Costco smoked salmon. It's pretty damn tasty for 'supermarket fish'.

Kirkland has some good stuff. Pike's Market is 2nd best, only to fresh! I smoke my own when I go salmon fishing, now THAT's good eats.

I absolutely love them. I like them best in water or soybean/olive oil.

Just ran out to the store to pick up some turnips and parsnips for my lamb shoulder chops. Figured I'd pick up a couple of cans of sprats. Well they actually had 4 cans of the Gold version this time which according to other sardine snobs are better. I think it was a mis-ship or something. Anyway on amazon they go for twice as much as the ones I usually get and I got them for the same price a very reasonable $1.99 for like 5.6 ozs. The sardine gods must be rewarding me for this thread.....

Sounds tasty! The only thing that would make it better is to cook it with some herbal butter or oil.

Sardines and kippers are one of my favourite snacks. I like them on saltines with a bit of plain ol' yellow mustard. I always take plenty camping for a source of protein. If I had to rely on fishing for food while camping I would go hungry.

What is wrong with you people. Don't any of you know that sardines and kippers are to be eaten with hard cheese and Bermuda onions! Mustard and hot sauce are also required.

here are two great ways to have kippers eaten with a nice poached egg on top with bread and butter for teatime or supper, but i like them alot for breakfast with loads of hot buttered toast and orange marmalade, truely a food of the gods..

My Mom went to Alaska about a year ago and brought me some awesome smoked canned salmon sockey wild caught, best I've ever had. I think it was pricey tho even in Alaska. If I'm remembering right it was captain Jim's brand. yeah it was after a quick google this is the stuff. http://riverboatdiscovery.com/Search...?CategoryID=44
I have a can left as I've been savoring it. I hope it shows up on Amazon cheaper some day.......
I have found that out too. Still have some cans of the pre-sauced stuff around though.
