Is The Nobel Peace Prize Relevant?

So Obama gets a peace prize, and now the EU. Can it get any more political, with less basis in reality? They should eliminate the peace prize, and add the money to the science prizes. The peace prize is a fraud.

I've nothing to add to that and totally agree.
I find it ironic that the worst horrors that ever existed on the planet existed in Europe and now its the Peace Prize. I suppose it has indeed been peaceful since but do we really need a prize ffs.

Jimmy Savile fixed it for Israel - 1979 medal

Savile described himself as "the only yok with a Yiddishe kop".

It's a correlation/causation thing. What do you think's more likely. People were shellshocked after the most destructive war in history, and didn't want to repeat it, or centralizing power(what Hitler wanted the whole time) is what promoted peace? People are thinking "Why exactly do we need the EU?", and this ridiculous prize is trying get the subjects into line. If I were more cynical, I might think the prize was bought outright, but that wouldn't happen, would it?

I agree again. Why haven't they given this to a person?
Europe was so shocked after the world wars that it wouldn't have re-occurred anyway. As for the UN 'peacekeeping' in Bosnia, Kosovo etc. their influence was limited - I was there. If any group should be awarded a peace prize it's NATO if you want to go down that route.
There is nothing I would like to see more politically than the demise of the European Union whatever the financial cost.

All I'll say is that if Norway thought that the EU was such a great thing ... how come they've never felt the need to become members?

I mean - they are very close to Sweden geographically.

and the thing about Norway is they don't pay for child care giving them one of the best standards of living in the world. They pay higher taxes for that privilege though but it beats the hell out of the amount of money I'm paying.

So they won this for its attempts to unite Europe.

I guess that means Hitler is eligible for a Peace Prize too.

I have not seen this video before I made the comments above but I'm pleased that he's confirming the views I already had.
He comments that the EU are possibly providing the same conditions for war and revolution as existed in the former Yugoslavia.

I like Farage a lot. If he were running for something over here, I'd vote for him in a second.

I've voted for him solely and continuously - helped get him into the European Parliament. People in the past have thought of him as a person with very right wing views, which in my opinion is totally false. Certainly the fledgling United Kingdom Independence Party was a rag tag immature party but this has grown into a strong and quite powerful voice, especially with the current economic climate.
