    Twin Cities

I was incredibly bored today - Being sick and tired ; which ended up with me looking at Twin Cities of several Cities.

It sort of got me wondering if there is any importance to what your Twin/Sister cities are?
And also, what are the Twin Cities of your cities?
    Since I live in Aalborg ours are ;

    Netherlands Almere, Netherlands
    France Antibes, France
    Turkey Bodrum, Turkey
    Germany Büdelsdorf, Germany
    Scotland Edinburgh, Scotland (since 1991)
    Norway Fredrikstad, Norway
    Faroe Islands Fuglafjørður, Faroe Islands
    Republic of Ireland Galway, Ireland
    Poland Gdynia, Poland
    Israel Haifa, Israel
China Hefei, People's Republic of China
    Iceland Húsavík, Iceland
    Austria Innsbruck, Austria
    Russia Kaliningrad, Russia
    Sweden Karlskoga, Sweden
    United Kingdom Lancaster, United Kingdom
    Greenland Nuuk, Greenland
    Russia Pushkin, Russia
    United States Racine, USA
    Switzerland Rapperswil-Jona, Switzerland
    Germany Rendsburg, Germany
    Latvia Riga, Latvia
    Finland Riihimäki, Finland
    Greenland Scoresbysund, Greenland
    United States Solvang, USA
    Romania Tulcea, Romania
    Bulgaria Varna, Bulgaria
    Lithuania Vilnius, Lithuania
    Germany Wismar

It's actually a rather remarkable list considering the town only has 100'000 citizens - I've looked at several other major cities and only a few come close to having such a great amount of sister cities.

I have been to 4 of our sister cities (as we call them here). Gaoxiong and Kobe when I was too young to remember, and Chongqing and Tashkent within the last 6 years. There are several more I'd love to visit, and many I know nothing about.

Oxford certainly cannot boast that number of twin towns!

      Ours are:

      Bonn in Germany
      Grenoble in France
      Leiden in Holland
      Leon in Nicaragua
      and Perm in Russia

Of those I've only ever visited Grenoble - and visited is a slightly strong term for passing through the town when the van broke down and we had to get the clutch changed!

I am not sure about the last one on your list but the others are university cities like Oxford itself... being a rather exclusive, intellectual place it cannot boast a huge number of twins.

Oxford's not an exclusive intellectual place!!!

It's a bustling car manufacturing town that just happens to have been invaded by students :-P

As far as I've heard Cambridge is half chav, and half posh - Basically a crapload of assholes?

I went to Cambridge too Skell! I just come from Oxford.

Both are beautiful to look at .. and both have much more interesting local populations than they have student populations - it's just hard to go out and find that when you're at college.

                            Cheers
