Froggy sobered up and is back in the pond! I kind of like keeping the cat right where she is! The mouse was missing this morning though! Little pile of duct tape and a little tail under the cat.
Was a long night! Rather worn out from the worry. Lost power and the fiber link. Not one major tree fell, although there has to be a hundred thousand little sticks just everywhere. Storm peaked about 1 am and sticks were just pounding the house. I had to get up and take a double shot of brandy to calm my nerves. Next thing its first light and i cannot find anything seriously amiss. Cycle charged the generator to run the 220 water pump, and right after I cooled it down, the power came back on along with the fiber. Record time!!!!! Miracle that one. Spending most of the day carting generator around to cycle refrigerators for various neighbors.wiki "Popcorn Sutton" a true COOT!

Just got power back. Ya know, all in all, I didn't do too badly. I helped a friend pump a basement today, so I haven't inspected the property, but it looks like the only tree down is a dead apple tree I had out back. That was my emergency firewood stash. I figured I'd leave it standing until I needed it, but the winds took it down.Lots of scary wind noises, and strange bumps coming from who knows where, but the damage was light. I'm pleased :^)

Glad to see that all in the path of Hurricane Sandy are ok! What about you guys in the mountains dealing with Super Storm Sandy? Looks like the middle of Winter in some of those places! One of the rare times I'm glad I'm in Chicago but I know I'm going to regret saying that in about a month! :-)

well, it looks like the worst is behind us now, lol. It's spitting snow now, and I don't know how because the radar doesn't show any precipitation for our area, lol. All in all, we only got about 10" of snow at my house. Most of which melted today as the snow turned to rain, and than back to snow and flurries this evening.
The crazy thing is that around 15miles from here got over 2 feet of snow, so I count us as lucky, because we still have power. Glad to see our brothers on SnusOn have made it through...has anyone NOT checked in?

Glad to hear everyone is OK
Lx......take a few of the limbs from the apple tree that are about thumb size in width (or some big chips if you are cutting it up) and set them aside and let them dry............next time you grill a pork chop or even a burger.....soak a few pieces in water over night or at least for several hours before you cook and then throw them on the coals once they get lit..................and you will have some great apple wood burgers/chicken/pork
MmmmmmmmWhen it's my time to go, I want to die peacefully in my sleep, like my uncle did....... Not screaming in terror like his passengers

Sorry Dog.......I wouldn't soak em especially in a quick cook like that. Just throw em on the coals. I smoke a lot of meat and used to soak my wood. I no longer do. I just throw on some nice chunks and let it do what it does, Soaking it actually defeats the purpose. Yeah when you throw a bunch of wet wood on hot coals it looks like smoke but it's more steam than anything and probably some creosote...... I've experimented both ways for a long time and I have found it is an exercise in futility. Don't take my word for it. Try em dry and see what happens......

The funny thing is………..I have absolutely no idea what I’m doing………but I keep on bumping into people who DO know what they are doing……………and they give me all these great tips……….then I go to my Brother-in-law’s and look like a geniuses……….if this whole dry thing works……………I CANNOT WAIT to get down there and say (with an air of superiority and compassionate condescension) ………..bro why are you soaking those wood chunks............When it's my time to go, I want to die peacefully in my sleep, like my uncle did.......
