It's very very good news in many ways but couldn't the wrong use of data mining be used in the wrong hands?

Data mining is already being used against the people every day. I don't see a specific problem with this technology, but you have to remember that everything you type into GoogleTranslate, or similar services is being logged, and if it isn't right now, will shortly be stored forever by the NSA. Your profile will be extended, and enhanced by what you type into the magic box, and may be used against you.

I know but with this techology everything that you say could be recorded couldn't it? And that is a little worrying lol... thought police territory...

It absolutely could. You just have to be mindful of where you speak it. If you give a public presentation, you can expect your voice to be stored, and possibly analyzed. Same with a translation service. If you do it online, you can assume your voice will be stored. If you use your own software, on your own machine, it's much less of a problem.
